"A BTL-S3? This thing's an antique."
"These things won the Rebellion, Jess! Tough as nails, armed to the teeth…"
"Slower than dirt, handles like you strapped wings to a Hutt…"
Jessika Pava and Poe Dameron[2]

The BTL-S3 Y-wing Starfighter, also known as the BTL-S3 Y-Wing, was a two-seater variant of the BTL series Y-wing.

Characteristics[]

Except for the cockpit variations, all ships in the BTL series were similar in design.[1] It was typically crewed by a pilot and gunner, who sat back-to-back in the cockpit.[2] An astromech droid could occupy an exterior socket.[1]

History[]

It was developed for Galactic Republic service in the Clone Wars, but became most famous for its use by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Imperial Era.[3] Despite its slow speed and ponderous handling characteristics, these craft were renowned for their toughness in the Galactic Civil War. The Resistance operated at least one such craft for armed reconnaissance missions in 34 ABY, during the Cold War. At the time, it was the Resistance's only two-seat starfighter, although it was soon destroyed during the mission to Spalex.[2]
