Aztubek was a wealthy but little-developed planet lying along the Corellian Trade Spine in the Javin sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It was originally one of the eleven member worlds of Mugaari Space prior to Galactic Republic intervention, which reshaped the region's power structure. Aztubek became home to many corporate complexes, catering to workers who commuted from neighboring Javin, the sector capital.

Description[]

The planet Aztubek was the namesake of the Aztubek system. It was located in the Javin sector, part of the Greater Javin region[1] within the Western Reaches portion[2] of the Outer Rim Territories, and sat along the Corellian Trade Spine hyperlane just Rimward of the sector capital, Javin. Aztubek's surface featured snowy, forested valleys.[1]

History[]

Aztubek occupied what the Galactic Republic originally considered to be Wild Space, an imperfectly surveyed frontier region of the galaxy that attracted only scouts and the most daring traders. Specifically, Aztubek fell within Mugaari Space, a semi-independent grouping of eleven star systems ruled for millennia by the sentient Mugaari species, who were wary of the Republic.[1]

Some thousand years before the Galactic Civil War, Republic traders set out from the terminus of the Corellian Trade Spine at the planet Javin to reach the outer Mugaari worlds of Aztubek, High Chunah, and beyond. They sought to establish contact with the Lutrillians and Nothoiins, two other alien species ripe for trade, but these civilizations could not be reached without surrendering major profit shares to the Mugaari. The Republic eventually defeated the Mugaari in a brief, one-sided war to establish the Javin sector where Mugaari Space had been, and the Greater Javin exploded into an economic powerhouse.[1]

As the Rimward neighbor of Javin, the sector's governmental hub, Aztubek attracted corporate establishment. Although wealthy, the planet remained sparsely developed by the time of the New Republic.[1]

Inhabitants[]

Corporate complexes dotted Aztubek's forest valleys,[2] but few people took up permanent residence on the planet. Most workers shuttled in from neighboring Javin on week-long rotations. Aztubek was originally one of eleven worlds inhabited by the Mugaari, whose regional influence waned following the arrival of the Republic.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Aztubek was created for "Galactic Gazetteer: Hoth and the Greater Javin," a 2004 online supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game.[1] The Essential Atlas, published in 2009, further developed Aztubek's lore.[2]
