- "Alfonso, you're a lifesaver! What's your midi-chlorian count? Seriously, what do we need to do?"
"We put an ad in the paper. Bounty hunters from everywhere are looking, looking, looking, and then we got this guy!" - ―Palpatine and Alfonso
Alfonso was an Ithorian Spanish-language instructor and barber. They were responsible for teaching the protocol droid C-3PO Spanish—an experience C-3PO recalled when he was purchased by the moisture farmer Owen Lars in 0 BBY. In 3 ABY, Alfonso gave Galactic Emperor Palpatine the idea to hire bounty hunters to track down the remnants of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Biography[]
- "I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations, and I'm fluent in over 6 million forms of—"
"Uh-oh! En este clase, nosotros hablamos en español. Bueno? Bueno." - ―C-3PO and Alfonso
By 0 BBY,[3] Alfonso served as an instructor for a Spanish-language course in which C-3PO, Lobot, Ponda Baba, and R2-D2 were students. While C-3PO was introducing himself to the class via Galactic Basic Standard, Alfonso interjected, requesting that the protocol droid do so in Spanish. They then asked C-3PO what his name was in Spanish and misunderstood the letter "C" in the droid's response as the Spanish word "sí." When C-3PO desperately attempted to correct Alfonso, the instructor grew impatient and ordered C-3PO to take his seat. R2-D2 then approached Alfonso, who angrily demanded that the astromech droid utilize Spanish as well. C-3PO recalled his class with Alfonso[2] in 0 BBY;[3] when the moisture farmer Owen Lars asked the droid if he spoke Spanish while purchasing him, he dejectedly responded "Sí… 3PO."[2]
In 3 ABY,[4] Alfonso was employed as a barber in service to Galactic Emperor Palpatine. During an appointment between the two, Palpatine informed Alfonso that the former's hair was a mess as he had not had time to cut it prior. The barber reassured their client that they would have him looking perfect and got started on performing the haircut. As Alfonso worked, they asked Palpatine how the Galactic Empire was doing, reminding Palpatine that he had been excited about the superweapon known as the Death Star. The Emperor sullenly responded that they were already building a second one and became aggravated upon mentioning his apprentice, Darth Vader. Vader then called the Sith Lord, and Alfonso interjected with the exclamation "Uh-oh!" throughout various points of the tense conversation.[1]
After Palpatine hung up, Alfonso gave their client the idea to use bounty hunters to track down members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, stating that their sister was dating one. Palpatine agreed with the idea and jokingly asked Alfonso what their midi-chlorian count was before inquiring how they would go about hiring a bounty hunter. The barber responded that Palpatine should simply put an ad in the newspaper, and he would find the Rebels in no time. Palpatine exclaimed that he liked the plan and then complimented Alfonso on their work with his hair.[1]
Personality and traits[]
- "Oh, no! You're looking for some guys? What about a bounty hunter?"
"A what, now?"
"You know, a guy who looks for a guy for money. My sister's dating one." - ―Alfonso and Palpatine
Alfonso was an Ithorian with brown skin and black eyes with yellow pupils. Alfonso was a cheerful individual who was capable of giving advice to and even calming Emperor Palpatine during moments of stress.[1] However, Alfonso could become aggravated, having grown frustrated during a lengthy miscommunication between themself and C-3PO.[2] They were capable of speaking both Galactic Basic Standard[1] and Spanish, the latter of which they were fluent enough in to teach.[2]
Equipment[]
While teaching the Spanish class[2] by 0 BBY,[3] Alfonso wore a black jumpsuit and a yellow jacket with white trimming over the top of it.[2] While working as a barber[1] in 3 ABY,[4] Alfonso wore black pants and a white-and-blue striped shirt with a white overcoat, as well as a black bow-tie. They utilized tools such as a spray bottle, a comb, and scissors.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Alfonso first appeared in a sketch from the 2008 sketch comedy special Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. The character was voiced by Hugh Davidson.[1] Davidson reprised his role as the character in the 2010 sequel Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III.[2] Alfonso's speech is represented by a paper-craft mouth on the front of their head in both specials,[1][2] as with all characters in Robot Chicken;[5] however, Ithorians canonically have two mouths located on either side of their necks.[6] Due to the parodic nature of Robot Chicken, this article assumes Alfonso's paper-craft mouth is not a literal depiction of their anatomy.
