Title[]

According to a Wall Street Journal article today, the title for this series is "Star Trek: Prodigy". [1]

This corresponds with trademarks filed by CBS in May 2019 and September 2019. [2] --Mbroskamp (talk) 20:58, January 23, 2020 (UTC)

There are more newspapers, Daily Star Trek News and Stevivor, reporting that the name of this animated show will be called "Star Trek: Prodigy". -- M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W | E) 594 contributions and counting 18:15, February 11, 2020 (UTC)
Still no confirmation from a production source, though. -- Renegade54 (talk) 19:18, February 11, 2020 (UTC)
True, but if anyone has a WSJ subscription it would be nice for the page to include the mention in a mainstream media source. The page shouldn't be moved until and unless we have a production source, but I think the WSJ article merits a mention. (The only reason I'm not adding it myself is that it requires a subscription, and I would want to make sure I'm quoting it correctly.)
Come to think of it, these mentions are probably enough to justify a redirect, which can be deleted if needed later. —Josiah Rowe (talk) 04:46, February 12, 2020 (UTC)
...and I see that Archduk3 has already created that redirect. —Josiah Rowe (talk) 04:51, February 12, 2020 (UTC)
Removed from the article, another writer spreading what is nothing but rumors so far: [3] - Archduk3 13:31, April 1, 2020 (UTC)

Director found[]

Ben Hibon will direct, co-executive produce and serve as the creative lead of Nickelodeon’s all-new animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. [4] -- M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W | E) 594 contributions and counting 21:51, August 10, 2020 (UTC)

Change in Primary Network[]

After reading the article, "Inside the ‘Star Trek’ Universe of New Shows and Kids’ Fare on Paramount Plus", Prodigy will air first on Paramount+ and then later in the year on Nickelodeon. -- M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W ) 594 contributions and counting 04:42, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Character backgrounds?[]

The article on TrekMovie.com gives much more information on the characters (species, a brief description of their personalities, and ages for some of them). Since the article is based on material directly from Paramount+, doesn't that make it official? Also, will this be the first time a non-canon species, the Brikarians (β), have been promoted to canon? The preceding unsigned comment was added by JDspeeder1 (talkcontribs).

What's your angle? –Gvsualan (talk) 14:27, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
I would imagine that JDspeeder is suggesting that some of that information could be incorporated into this article. We can’t create articles on the characters, etc., until the first episode airs, but presumably we could include some of those details here as background information. That said, I can see two arguments against including those details here: one, things can change (e.g. Leslie Crusher and “Macha” Hernandez), and two, putting those character details here might make the article unbalanced (in the “undue weight” sense). —Josiah Rowe (talk) 14:39, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Chakotay[]

Do we know for certain that Beltran is voicing Chakotay? Even if likely, I don't think any of the reporting on his comments said that. 31dot (talk) 10:52, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Pilot[]

In this interview at TrekMovie.com, Dan Hageman says, "The pilot will be the first two episodes." Kevin Hageman adds, "It's like a 44-minute pilot."

Does this mean that Episodes 1 and 2 will air together on Oct. 28, and then there will be only 8 more episodes, or does it mean that Episode 1 is double-length, and then there will be 9 more episodes? If it's the former, then doesn't that mean that for our purposes, there will actually be 9 episodes in the first season of Prodigy (since we treat any double-length episode as a single, rather than as two)? —Josiah Rowe (talk) 02:41, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

That is true, but we also count them as 101 and 102. So the first regular ep would be 103-110. It's still comes out to ~220 mins in the end, either way. -- Gvsualan (talk) 04:23, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

OK, so I’ve edited Template:PRO Season 1 accordingly. —Josiah Rowe (talk) 15:54, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Janeway[]

Per the newest teaser video released by Paramount+, on YouTube; she says "I am 'Kathryn Janeway' ..." [5] - M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W ) 594 contributions and counting 03:37, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes, and...?
If your point is to say that the cast list in this article should link to Kathryn Janeway, that doesn't follow. She also says "I'm a hologram based on one of the most decorated captains in Starfleet history." So this character is not the same person as the captain of Voyager; it's a holographic duplicate of her, like the many other holographic duplicates of Janeway. Obviously, this one will be a more developed character than any of those — it'll probably be a sentient hologram, and will certainly deserve its own article, probably at "Kathryn Janeway (hologram)". The actual Kathryn Janeway, who is an admiral by the time Prodigy is set, may or may not also appear. But we'll treat the hologram and the original as two different characters, because they are. —Josiah Rowe (talk) 15:39, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

My point was more inline with having her own page at "Kathryn Janeway (hologram)", as you pointed out, because she seemed like she would be more fleshed out as a separate character from the real Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager. I did not know about the holographic duplicate page until now. Thanks for that info! -- M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W ) 594 contributions and counting 22:59, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

And that page won't exist until the first episode has aired. -- Sulfur (talk) 23:11, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

DIS overlap?[]

So has anyone else noticed that DIS Season 4 starts three weeks into PRO Season 1. Are they really overlapping or is Prodigy's first season waaay shorter than we thought? –Gvsualan (talk) 12:13, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

There will be an over lap of six weeks from November 18th to December 23rd. --Hypered1 (talk) 10:01, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Actually, there will not. PRO goes into a mid-season break then, then restarts again in January. --Gvsualan (talk) 23:15, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd have been *very* surprised if they had both running at the same time. Their ultimate strategy is to have a new episode of Trek (in one form or another) on TV every week, or close to it. It would be a huge waste to run two at the same time. -- Renegade54 (talk) 01:48, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Retcon?[]

Has Prodigy been retconned and potentially removed from public viewing forever? Would it be best if the main article was reworded into the past tense now just in case that is the case? Tok'ra Operative (talk) 03:09, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

It's available on Blu-ray, so it's not untraceable, and I really don't see how the use of the term retcon applies here. Also season 2 hasn't totally discarded, so at least, it's on hiatus...–Gvsualan (talk) 03:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
The Brothers are looking for a new streaming service to take over streaming of seasons 1, 2 and hopefully 3+ -- M o r p h i a s (C | T/D/W ) 594 contributions and counting 18:29, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
