Bloomington, Indiana Monument[]

The CAPTAIN JANEWAY Bloomington Collective is raising money to install a celebratory monument to the Star Trek: Voyager character, and her connection to Bloomington, IN, her future birthplace.  (source: Captain Janeway to Receive Bloomington, Indiana Monument)

I posted something to that effect somewhere, but your post is more thorough. --LauraCC (talk) 16:07, November 2, 2019 (UTC)

Birth year[]

Can someone white down the birth year? In rhe infobox, it only stands "May 20", but which May 20?--Soulkeeper (Talk·contribs) 17:08, May 9, 2020 (UTC)

It was never stated in canon. -- sulfur (talk) 17:49, May 9, 2020 (UTC)
It was stated in canon; however, there are issues with dating the events in Janeway's life, so it seems that a mutual unofficial position was to ignore what was stated. The discussion about this can be found in the archives for this talk page.Memphis77 (talk) 01:23, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Right, forgot about the screenshot from Killing Game. There it was given as "June 5th, 2344". Which was contradicted by dialogue in "Year of Hell".
The background section at the end of her "Early Life" subsection on the article discusses all this in detail. -- Sulfur (talk) 11:38, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Considered by...you, I guess?[]

I removed the following from the section on "Tuvix" which seemed to reflect the opinion of whoever added it rather than any in-universe assessment.

The event that followed was considered one of the most controversial and immoral decisions ever committed by a Starfleet captain. However, according to current records, despite Federation law, no charges or court martial was ever placed for the action.

Skteosk (talk) 00:43, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

  • Since July 2022 there has been a Season 4 episode of Lower Decks in which the Tuvix situation is discussed and it is indeed described as controversial with one character saying outright that Janeway murdered Tuvix. The wording would need to be changed to reflect the later episode, but perhaps it can be put back? 23skidoo (talk) 20:28, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Other possible Janeways[]

Not adding this without a source, but I recall a magazine article mentioning that onetime Doctor Who cast member Nicola Bryant was also considered. Bryant later appeared in the fan production Star Trek Continues. 23skidoo (talk) 20:28, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Rename[]

Kathryn M

Since Observer's Paradox (episode) gives Janeway's middle name initial as M. I suggest we rename the Article to Kathryn M. Janeway in the vein as William T. Riker and James T. Kirk.--Jkirk8907 (talk) 04:49, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Support. -LauraCC (talk) 04:54, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Oppose. With Riker and Kirk, those were commonly used ways to refer to them. Janeway was not referenced with an 'M' when referred to. Redirect? Yes. Main article. No. -- Sulfur (talk) 13:00, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Oh, that's the distinction? It's been a while (at least) since I've seen any major change to a main character's name proposed. -LauraCC (talk) 13:03, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Oppose per Sulfur and MA:NAME: "An article's name should be as precise and simple as possible. In general, the name should be the most complete, commonly used name for the subject." 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 16:20, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Ah, okay. :) Oppose, then. I suppose the graduating class page can use the redirect, since that's where it's relevant. -LauraCC (talk) 16:25, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Oppose per Naming conventions, "commonly used name for the subject" and "simple is better" under middle names. - AJHalliwell (talk) 15:36, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Oppose a rename. Memory Beta still calls her Kathryn Janeway, even though the M has been around since the Caretaker novelization. Gilgamesh de Uruk (talk) 15:41, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Oppose renaming the page. With Riker and Kirk it's very common in dialogue, behind the scenes material, and fan discussions alike to use their middle initials when talking about them. Janeway's middle initial was revealed once in one episode, changing her article name over it would be overkill at best. Goweegie2 (talk) 02:03, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Wow, that's the most opposed votes I've seen in a long while on any page.-LauraCC (talk) 02:06, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Starfleet Sciences Division[]

Is this the first canon use of the science division logo? ‐ Yaroze86 (talk) 16:44, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
