Captain Gem was a Ferengi merchant who commanded a small starship in the late 24th century.
Gem approved of Grand Nagus Rom's progressive reforms, viewing him as "the next Lonz." In 2381, he ordered a fortune's worth of weapons in his cargo hold disposed of in accordance with Rom's ban on arms dealing, though this provoked discontent among his crew.
Shortly afterward, Gem's ship was approached by Nova One. Gem was suspicious, and became more so upon overhearing a muttered remark from his subordinate Jeef. Having only taken Jeef on as a favor to his cousin, Gem accused him of treachery and ordered him to be thrown out the airlock. Before this could be enacted, the unknown vessel pacified his ship and stole it. (LD: "Parth Ferengi's Heart Place", "A Few Badgeys More")
Gem and his first officer were later discovered alive on Sherbal V. (LD: "The Inner Fight")
