It was distinguished by two rows of two nacelles protruding back from the top of a tall trunk-like hull, and two rows of two nacelles protruding back from the bottom, with impulse engines in the center.

History[]

Federation starships before the Burn

Two ships of this class active prior to "The Burn"

In 3069, this class saw the loss of several ships to The Burn. Ships with active warp cores were destroyed when their dilithium became inert, resulting in antimatter explosions. (DIS: "People of Earth")

In 3189, the fleet at Federation Headquarters included ships of this class. The collective energy of this fleet sustained a distortion field that concealed the headquarters' location. (DIS: "Die Trying", "There Is A Tide...")

In 3190, a ship of this class was present at the re-opening of Starfleet Academy and the unveiling of the Archer Spacedock. (DIS: "Kobayashi Maru")

In the 33rd century, five or more starships of this class participated in a ceremonial honor-formation at Federation Headquarters for the launch of Zora and the USS Discovery's Red Directive mission. (DIS: "Life, Itself")

Background information[]

The Dresselhaus-class was designed by William Budge, [1][2] and is, along with the Daniel J. Burns-designed Friendship-class, one of only two 32nd century Starfleet vessels not designed by Ryan Dening and his team.

A CG model for the Eaglemoss Collections publications was constructed by the company's mainstay Fabio Passaro, who re-rendered the production model constructed at Pixomondo from the Autodesk Maya software into the LightWave 3D software format (Eaglemoss' software package of choice) in order to make it print publication ready, aside from additionally converting it into the CAD files needed for display model manufacturing. The model was intended to become part of its own individual outing in Eaglemoss' Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection partwork publication as issue 17 before the bankruptcy of the company put that intent on hold.

Apocrypha[]

The second edition of Eaglemoss/Hero Collector's Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet Ships 2294 to the Future listed also the USS Pfau (β) (NCC-325017) as a ship of this class.
