The Defenders are a fictional group in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). They were made up of four superhumans from New York to defeat the Hand before they destroyed the city.
The term "Defenders" is an informal term to their union, as it is never officially used within the miniseries, simply a title used for marketing and promotional usage. Due to this, Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, said in September 2018 that he saw this as an opportunity to bring it back in another form with new characters, despite no definite plans for the future.
