I finally received some color over the weekend. At the age of 47, I finally received my blue belt…the belt I missed out on for so many years because of pregnancies, sciatica injuries, fractures, mom-duties, supporting a CEO of an exciting start-up, and many other responsibilities that pull me away from training. I miss morning class, AND I miss night class. My husband, who is also my instructor/professor created a space for me in our home for when I can train - even if it’s for 30 minutes. I trained. In the Jiu Jitsu community, the blue belt isn’t a big deal; probably because as a white belt, you mainly have to avoid chokes and learn how to escape. Be the dummy and absorb everything, but mainly SURVIVE. While most practitioners earn their blue in a year or two, I received mine in TEN. It no longer matters to me how long the journey takes, as long as I get up, find the motivation to improve myself, and do it. The ultimate perk…seeing my daughters’ faces light up when I was promoted, and I can finally say I did something for myself for which I'm really proud of. Personally, this is what prioritizing my own happiness and being a present mom look like. https://lnkd.in/gvXAnHFd "you gotta start." 💙, Ro
