Last week, I had the pleasure of connecting with Associates and interns across the business. The week kicked off with a visit to Mars’ office in Virginia where I joined our Corporate Associates to share about the development of MGS’ first-ever shared objective #EasierIsBetter, our rapid evolution since our inception in 2016, and how we are leveraging emerging technologies like generative AI to drive an enhanced Associate experience globally. With the fast pace of change in technology advancements, we must bring the collective intelligence of everyone in the room, and ensure the human being remains at the center of all we do. Thank you, Claus Aagaard and Stefanie Straub for inviting me to join you on stage to discuss the ways MGS delivers value across Mars. Next, I joined our MGS Associates around the world to celebrate our wins, big and small, since the launch of #EasierIsBetter last year. A big thank you to Dumitrache Martinez and Maureen Pratt for joining me in person and Pierre-Yves Beaume Stéphanie Aladenise , Renato Monteiro and Niki Archambeau sharing how your teams live out our OGSM every day. To the 3,000+ MGS Associates around the world, thank you for your daily invaluable contributions to our business! I am constantly in awe of your tenacity, agility, creativity, and unwavering commitment to the Mars Purpose. Last, but certainly not least, I had the pleasure of speaking with our Mars summer interns. I’m always grateful for an opportunity to pursue my passion of working with today’s youth by supporting our early talent initiatives at Mars. As a leader, I’m committed to using my platform to uplift the voices of marginalized communities around the world, and I’m grateful to work for a company that’s intentional about creating a diverse and equitable workplace for all. In celebration of International Day of Pride on June 28, I want to take a moment to highlight a few MGS Associates from the LGBTQIA+ community and their perspective on what Pride means to them. If you know me, you know that I am deeply passionate about empowering and advancing women in the workplace – a passion that has inspired me to use my platform as a leader to uplift women of all backgrounds around the globe. Leading up to #WorldRefugeeDay tomorrow, I’d like to take a moment to recognize the resilience and strength of women refugees and encourage you to create inclusive spaces that empower them to thrive professionally. Their experiences bring a resilience and problem-solving capability that are invaluable assets in today’s dynamic business environment, and their perspectives are needed to build a more diverse and innovative workforce. In support of women like Bahara, who is part of the Chatterbox #ElevateRefugees ‘Festival of Stories,’ I want to raise awareness of the immense value refugees bring to our businesses and communities. Together, we can turn the journey of these brave women into a mutually rewarding experience by advocating for inclusive hiring practices, offering mentorship programs, and ensuring our work environments are safe and supportive for all. Our MGS quarterly senior leader calls are always a great way to start the day, but our most recent call was extra special. Yesterday, MGS leaders joined me and Claus Aagaard in Newark for a discussion on our YTD wins and what’s on the global horizon for Mars for the rest of 2024. While it was great to reflect on the ways we add value, efficiency, and innovation to Mars globally, the best part was presenting Claus with our first-ever “Easier is Better” award for his unwavering support of MGS since our start in 2016. Today is World Food Safety Day – a day to inspire action and awareness around the prevention and detection of foodborne risks. As a maker of food and treats for pets and people, food safety is a top priority at Mars At MGS, we help make safe food a reality through the expertise and guidance of our R&D Solutions team under the incredible leadership of Gilbert Lamothe. His team of over 300 Associates manages our global network of more than 200 laboratories, providing the necessary governance, training, and food safety testing that Mars relies on to ensure the highest quality of products and raw materials used in production. At Mars, if it’s not safe, it’s not food. Great to have spent time in the Mars Canada office, the place where I started my Mars adventure. It is here I got to experience the Essence of Mars, The Five Principles, and the passion for our products. What has always stood out still continues today - the associates. I felt privileged this week to reconnect with one of the associates I worked with during my time in Canada. A shout out to Sally-Anne Hinton who after a wonderful career will be retiring in July. Equally, I had a chance to welcome a new MGS associate, Sue Atwere, 15 days in. And lunch is always better together with some folks from MGS - Kelly. Last week, a group of MGS leaders from Mars attended SSON European conference demonstrating their commitment to continuous learning. They networked with industry peers, attended thought-provoking sessions, and contributed to engaging discussions about the value of shared services and the next generation of GBS with GenAI. Through the work of our associates, we were also shortlisted for two categories of the European Impact Awards – Automation and Process Improvement.
