In The Tower of Nero, the final book of "The Trials of Apollo" series, Bob the Titian sacrificed himself to save several demigods. Since then, Nico's been hearing Bob's voice from the Underworld begging for his help. In this book, Nico's determined to rescue him. Despite Nico's worry for Will's safety, he accompanies Nico on this dangerous quest to Nico's home and source of his pain. As an exhausted Nico and injured Will are in Tartarus telling old nymph Gorgyra their stories in exchange for her help, flashbacks from both of their points of view describe the obstacles they've encountered so far. Constantly beset by disturbing nightmares, Nico and Will struggle to not let the Underworld overwhelm them or make them doubt themselves or each other. Chapters end on cliffhangers as Nico and Will try to defeat Nyx, a primordial goddess of darkness, and her monster children, who are trying to prevent them from freeing Bob.     Rick Riordan is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Kane Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus. He is also the author of the multi-award-winning Tres Navarre mystery series for adults.

    For fifteen years, Rick taught English and history at public and private middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Texas. In 2002, Saint Mary's Hall honored him with the school's first Master Teacher Award.

    While teaching full time, Riordan began writing mystery novels for grownups. His Tres Navarre series went on to win the top three national awards in the mystery genre - the Edgar, the Anthony and the Shamus. Riordan turned to children's fiction when he started The Lightning Thief as a bedtime story for his oldest son.

I'm currently reading this book and i'm loving it, i have been a loyal reader of Rick Riordan and all his sagas related to the Demigods at Camp half blood. Nico has always been one of my favorite characters and i was super excited when i heard about his and Will's story!!As a latina i really love that Rick collabed with a latinx queer author for this book ♥ I got the hard cover version and the quality is amazing. A really pretty book and it has little details, like some pages beeing light grey and darker depending on what's happening, i don't think i have ever seen a book so pretty, the amount on attention to details is amazing.

Anyone who dislikes tsats is either homophobic or just really struggles to let Percy and annabeth go. Will and Nico are honestly such a great couple, there’s some amazing adventures, a ton of suspense and you even get them asking other popular couples like Percy and annabeth or Persephone and hades how to navigate their relationship. These two characters definitely know how to hold their own.

First, I would like to state that I was one of the so many fans who was waiting for Solangelo book for so long.

So, seriously, even this book contained all the elements I dislike, those are:
1. Co-writing. This made me feel that Nico's (and Will's) personality was unstable. The only case that co-writing-book will work in my opinion is that the authors write different characters. As you can feel. We have a no-nonsense Nico in one part (or chapter) and a sweet and playful Nico in the other. I have never liked co-written-book, and this one is another proof.
I also don't think Percy and Annabeth had these many sweet moments. It's quite disconcerting (within this universe).

2. Too many flashbacks (and dreams. Oh so many dreams). Not only too much but also very long. A good amount of flashbacks (or dream sequences) are nice, but when it became too much, it made me feel a bit irritated. I want to know how the story will advance, not staying in the past too long. Well, I will admit that in this book some flashbacks are necessary, but still think it didn't have to be that long.

3. Stories are told in many timelines and in many directions.
This exhausted me. You have present situations, and then you have something like the result in the future, and then you have flashbacks. Like, you are reading a very serious situation and you are drawn into it, but just turning the page and you got a very light-hearted, lovely and sweet scene. And this repeated. Emotionally exhausted. Plain and simple.

BUT, because this is Nico and Will and Bob's story, all are good.
Will and Nico, Light and Darkness. The sky above and the underground.
The first time Mr.Riordan set these two together I was filled with hope for their own stories and adventures. There are so many aspects and anything you can use this contrast in the plot. This book came out not as good as I have been expecting, but still good enough.

PS1. This book is definitely not a Stand-alone. If you want to understand what's going on, you at least must read 11 books before this. 5 from the Percy Jackson series, 5 from the Heroes of Olympus series, and at least book 5 of the Apollo series.
You may feel a bit discouraged, but please believe me, you will not regret it.
They are worth every cent of your money and every minute of your time.

PS2. Bob and Small Bob, I am So happy to be able to meet you again. And I hope I can still see you again somewhere.

PS3. Anyone who was expecting many humorous moments, like in Percy's series or Apollo's series, will be a bit disappointed. After all, it is Nico's book. Especially, Nico in Tartarus.

This is a book that I didn't know I needed to read until I read it! Holy crap, my heart! 😍

While you do not need to have read Rick's other books in this world and can read this one as a stand alone, YA-adventure, I definitely recommend that you do because it references past plots and characters. He is the author of all of the Percy Jackson books and this one features two of my favorite couples, Nico de Angelo and Will Solace.

Nico, son of Hades, and Will, son of Apollo, are sent on a quest deep into Tartarus, the extreme depths of the Underworld to rescue a used-to-be-evil-but-is-now- reformed Titan, Bob. Nyx, the godess of Night has trapped Bob, forcing him to choose between his good side and his bad side over and over because he keeps chosing good. Bob reaches out to Nico in his dreams, begging for help and freedom from Nyx's grasp.

This book is full of cutesy boyfriend fluff, like hand holding, forehead kissing, falling asleep in each other's arms and teasing. It is also full of naked truths, emotional healing, patience and how hard it can be to work at a relationship every single day. These boys are polar opposites sometimes (light and dark) but they definitely work well together, both strategically in battles and romantically.

I am beyond thrilled that they got their own book and adventure so we could see them outside of Camp Half-blood. I really liked that this book focused on mental and emotional health/healing and that I got to see Nico (one of my favorite demigods from the original books) have character development and healing because he really deserves to be happy.

This might just be my favorite book of anything Uncle Rick has written and I may have literally dropped everything to read it - boy, was it worth it! 💙 💙
