Life preservers are mandatory for this wet, wild, and wondrous adventure, the third entry in Rick Riordan's New York Times #1 best-selling Norse mythology trilogy, which features a cameo from Percy Jackson.

Magnus Chase, a once-homeless teen, is a resident of the Hotel Valhalla and one of Odin's chosen warriors. As the son of Frey, the god of summer, fertility, and health, Magnus isn't naturally inclined to fighting. But he has strong and steadfast friends, including Hearthstone the elf, Blitzen the dwarf, and Samirah the Valkyrie, and together they have achieved brave deeds, such as defeating Fenris Wolf and battling giants for Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. Now Magnus faces his most dangerous trial yet. His cousin, Annabeth, recruits her boyfriend, Percy Jackson, to give Magnus some pointers, but will his training be enough?

Loki is free from his chains. He's readying
Naglfar, the Ship of the Dead, complete with a host of giants and zombies, to sail against the Asgardian gods and begin the final battle of Ragnarok. It's up to Magnus and his friends to stop him, but to do so they will have to sail across the oceans of Midgard, Jotunheim, and Niflheim in a desperate race to reach Naglfar before it's ready to sail.

Along the way, they will face angry sea gods, hostile giants, and an evil fire-breathing dragon. Magnus's biggest challenge will be facing his own inner demons. Does he have what it takes to outwit the wily trickster god?

Alex Fierro StanProduct ReviewAmazonFebruary 1st 2018 Rejection     Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is, in my opinion, a literary masterpiece. The way the plot escalates is absolutely marvelous, so intense yet comical that even I, an experienced reader, could not keep up with the depth of this timeless work of art. Stumbling upon words that flawlessly convey the full emotion that boils within me as I read these books was an odyssey, to say the least, yet Amazon censors me. This, dear reader, is not the first review I passionately wrote for this book, no, the first one was reckless yet full of raw emotion. I can never express myself in such a way ever again and I am deeply disappointed that the heartless Amazon employees would stop me from expressing my truest feelings. I will not be silenced. Fight the system.

I love this series. As a reasonably knowledgeable person on Norse mythology, it’s hilarious to see how Riordan has worked some of the tidbits into this series. It’s just a fun read with a good mix of humor and heart.

Summary:
So Loki’s on the loose and hooked up  with the crew of the Ship of the Dead to start Ragnarok.  Now, Magnus and every other demi god knows this is coming…. eventually.  But not yet- there’s stuff to do.  Percy and Magnus’ cousin Annabeth have to be allowed to go to college, Sam has to be allowed to marry her true love, Alex…. has to be allowed to be Alex.  To hold off Rangarok and gain a (hopefully long) reprieve, Magnus must cross an ocean, and defeat and imprison Loki- in less than two weeks.  On his side we have:
a fasting Valkyrie
a love-sick sword
Four friends from Valhalla two of which are on the off part of their on/off relationship and one who is Loki’s child.
A magical boat that is lovingly referred to as the “Big Banana”
our elf and dwarf friends
a drink of God Spit
a nut
Piece of cake right?
My thoughts:
I love this series!  It’s just so outlandish and fun, weaving Norse mythology and adventure.  As with all of Riordan’s series ( look here for a full list).  I like that the series tie together, though that does mean that you might miss little things if you haven’t read the others.  The characters are fantastic and the plot sprints along at break-neck speed.  This is a quick, very fun read.  Magnus’ series may actually be my favorite to date and it was a fierce competition.  Five stars!!!
On the adult content… well there’s obviously violence but this was written for very young teens in mind.  I don’t think there’s anything that would be too questionable.

This cover is gorgeous. I got my copy of the book delivered yesterday, on release day, and I cannot get over it. SO PRETTY.

Now, onto the book. I love these characters. I want them all as my friends. Just like I did with Percy and Carter and Sadie and Apollo. So basically, everyone is awesome. Happy sigh.

The actual story: awesome. I mean, duh. Gotta say, the Greek gods are MUCH better at rewarding heroes, but what Magnus ended up doing was super cool and I LOVE it. Speaking of love...Malex forever! Page 262. :) Crazy smile.

Okay, so speaking of crazy smiles, that's all I had on my face these past two days. I read some of this book at school, so hopefully I didn't look too weird. The Ship of the Dead was super cool. Magnus and his friends had to do a bunch of impossible stuff and other kickass things. As always, the various Norse gods, jotun, elves, etc. were present. Good stuff. It made for some humorous and deadly (luckily not to Magnus or his friends) scenes.

This book revealed a lot of backstory on the einherjar. Mallory, Halfborn, T.J. It was heartbreaking, and interesting, and funny. I liked this a lot.

Oh, and WE SAW PERCY!!!!!!!!!! BADABADABADA!!!!!! Ahem. Anyway, something is happening down in New York. At least according to Annabeth at the end of the book. Also, Percy was there, like I said. He has a little sister, Estelle Blofis. :) :) :) Happy sigh. Squeal. Other noises that occur when Percy Jackson appears and is his beautiful self.

So yeah. 5 stars.

Magnus Chase is a fun adventure across the nine worlds leading to a smack down against Loki and a ship full of White Walkers, er, zombies in a frozen wasteland.

The character growth made the story sing like Jack the sword. The constant giant fights did grow a little old. The best part was the will they won’t they, and we were treated (see what I did there) to a chocolatey kiss done in such a way as to be inclusive, exciting, and heart warming.

This was an amazing end to the trilogy. I've never like a "love and friendship prevails" plot, but Rick utilizes it perfectly. Loki is such a well written character with great lines. Tom Hiddleston would be proud. I loved how Mallory, who we all just thought was a side character, got much more fleshed out, in a way where it didnt feel rushed. For the people who are saying Rick is shoving the gender fluid stuff down our throats, he really isn't I have at least three friends who are on that spectrum, and its confusing! It needs to be explained quite a bit. This isnt a political thing, its just a bit of representation, and its done beautifully. Thank you Rick, for creating such an enjoyable series, with such enjoyable characters.
