Sins of our Fathers is a quest in The Witcher: Monster Slayer. It unlocks after completing Pride Ain't Cheap.

Walkthrough[]

This quest is started by talking to Vesemir after completing Pride Ain't Cheap quest. Vesemir orders you to go to the client, a hermit, to verify the contract. He also gives you his journal, containing information about the striga.

In the marked location, you meet the hermit fighting an arachas, you need to help him by killing the monster. The hermit confirms the contract. You can tell him about the option to lift the curse from the striga.

To lift the curse, you need vodnik's blood and candles. A vodnik can be found somewhere in the area, and candles are provided by Thorstein. He suggests buying them for 60 coins, but he doesn't charge anything.

  • Killing the striga - go to the indicated location and fight the monster. Then go to the hermit for a reward. You will receive gold coins and a broken sword trinket.
The striga is pretty difficult to kill, since it's an extreme level legendary monster - a White Striga. Recommended items to use in the fight are: booster potions like Thunderbolt, Cat or Swift, a couple of Moon Dust bombs, a cursed ones oil and a good silver sword like Melltith, Manticore or Griffin sword.
  • Disenchanting the striga - go to the indicated location at night and perform the ritual - pour blood on the grave and light the candles. Burning 1 candle takes 15 mins in v1.1 and 10 mins in v1.2. After all 3 candles have burned out, the hermit appears thanking you for disenchanting his daughter. As a reward, you receive the Hermit's Armor, 60 coins and the Something More trinket - three burned out candles.

Journal entry[]

Vesemir gave me the details of the contract I'd accepted. It involves the disposing of a striga - or breaking her curse. Depends on what I decide to do.
Vesemir told me the person who'd offered him the job was a hermit, so I was expecting someone more... anemic. Meanwhile, here was this big, brawny warrior fighting an arachas, the two going head to head, nearly evenly matched. I gave him a hand. After the fight, I officially accepted the contract.
If the hermit is told about the possibility of lifting the curse
Against Vesemir's advice, I mentioned to the hermit that I could break the curse. I hoped this wouldn't bite me in the ass later.
WHEN THE WITCHER AND THORSTEIN ARRIVED AT THE HUT. THEY SPOTTED A BIG, BURLY MAN FIGHTING AN ARACHAS. HIS MOVES BELIED UNCOMMON SKILL FOR A HUMAN AT LEAST.
THOUGH THE MAN SEEMED TO BE FARING WELL ENOUGH ON HIS OWN. THE WITCHER PREFERRED NOT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES - HE/SHE PROMPTLY RUSHED INTO FIGHT.
If the curse is lifted
Spending a night in that musty crypt was... unpleasant, to say the least, but I was able to break the striga's curse. The hermit gave me his old armor in thanks. Nice bit of equipment.
THE WITCHER SURVEYED THE BONES, PICKED CLEAN AND STREWN HAPHAZARDLY ON THE GROUND BEFORE THE CRYPT. THEN, HE/SHE STEPPED INSIDE AND BLOCKADED THE DOOR.
AS THE RITUAL INDICATED, HE/SHE LIT THE FIRST CANDLE AND BEGAN THE INCANTATION. ALL THAT COULD BE HEARD WAS HIS/HER STEADY VOICE - AND THE DISTANT HOWLS OF THE STRIGA.
THE CURSE NOW LIFTED. THE GIRL LOOKED FIT AND HEALTHY, BUT SOMETHING IN HER MOUEMENTS RECALLED THE WILD THING SHE'D BEEN.
MANY HARDSHIPS AWAITED THE HERMIT AND HIS LONG-LOST DAUGHTER ON THE ROAD AHEAD. BUT THANKS TO THE WITCHER, THEIR FUTURE WAS NOW SHINING BRIGHTER THAN BEFORE.
If the striga is killed
THE WITCHER SLAYED THE STRIGA. IT TURNED OUT THAT VESEMIR WAS INDEED RIGHT TO WARN HIM/HER AGAINST IGNITING THE HERMIT'S HOPES. SURPRISED BY HIS ATTACK, THE WITCHER WAS UNABLE TO DEFEAT THE GRIEF-CRAZED MAN AND HAD TO DEPART WITHOUT HIS/HER COIN.
SOMETIME LATER, THE NEIGHBORING VILLAGE'S INHABITANTS FOUND HIS ABANDONED HUT. NO ONE COULD SAY FOR SURE WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THE HERMIT WHO ONCE LIVED THERE.

Notes[]

  • If you're going to disenchant the White Striga, it's essential to arrive at the graveyard at night, otherwise the creature will spawn too early and you'll be forced to kill it instead.
  • The disenchanting ritual can take from 45 to 30 minutes, depending on the game version.
