The Great Mushrooming is a quest in The Witcher: Monster Slayer.
Walkthrough[]
The quest is started by talking to an eccentric man. He informs you about a mushroom picking competition and gives you the key to a treasure chest.
After finding the treasure, go to mayor Goronwy, who organizes The Great Mushrooming. He explains the rules - whoever collects the most mushrooms within 24 hours, wins. You can sign up immediately, which starts the timer, or say you're not ready and continue the quest later.
After the counter starts, mushroom markers start to appear on the map. Each of them spawns 1 to 7 mushrooms. They don't go in your inventory, so there's no limit of how much you can collect. During this stage you shouldn't mark another quest as active or mushrooms will stop generating.
When the game displays a message: All right. Mushrooms are bursting from the basket. Should be enough, it means that you should score the 1st place. In order to win you should allegedly have over 150 mushrooms.
While picking mushrooms, you will come across 4 random encounters: a mushroom picker rescue, a dead cyclops, a chat with Dehael, and killing draconids.
- A mushroom picker rescue - A woman has climed a tree to flee from nekkers. You can either steal her mushrooms and leave her, or kill the nekkers. Grateful Emlyn will tell you where to find more mushrooms. However, the mushroom spot is taken by a leshen, which you have to defeat.
- A dead cyclops - you stumble upon its body, the playable character says that it was killed by a frightener and the locals should be warned.
- A chat with Dehael - the boy has many questions, if you answers all of them, he will show you a good mushrooming spot.
- Draconids - you find a human hand, it's near a nemeton with draconids. You get 50 coins for clearing the spot.
After 24 hours have passed, return to the mayor. During the award ceremony, a fiend appears and you need to take care of it. Then the mayor grants you a prize adequate to the amount of picked mushrooms - a mushroom statue trinket, and for killing the fiend - the Mushroom Sentinel trinket. At the end, you warn the mayor about the frightener.

- Looking around for work, I ran into a very strange man on the road who seemed to be waiting for me. Muttering something about how I was "gonna do just fine" (in what?), he urged me to take part in the Great Mushrooming (the what?!). Somewhere in his crazed mumblings, I heard him tell me where I would find something I was looking for. That sounded worth looking into, at least.
- Sure enough, there was a chest where he'd told me to go and the key I'd found earlier fit. The strange man's advice, it seemed, had gotten me this far, so I decided to take part in this "Great Mushrooming."
- I introduced myself to the mayor of Darach Dearg and officially became a mushroomer. The competition would last twenty-four hours, so I set off to hunt for mushrooms hoping to earn the winner's purse.
- During the competition, I ran into a rival who'd run up a tree to escape some nekkers. Her mushroom basket lay on the ground nearby.
- If Emlyn is saved
- Would've been easy to nab it and go, but I decided to help her out. In thanks, Emlyn, as she was called, told me where I could find a huge patch of porcinis. However, she warned me that it was also the territory of a leshen.
- TEARING THROUGH THE WOODS, THE WITCHER HEARD SOMEONE CALLING FOR HELP. WHEN HE/SHE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE, HE/SHE NEARLY TRIPPED ON AN OVERTURNED BASKET OF MUSHROOMS.
- ITS OWNER WAS SITTING IN AN OLD OAK, BENEATH WHICH WERE TWO NEKKERS INTENT ON REACHING HER. PREOCCUPIED WITH THE MONSTERS, THE WOMAN DIDN'T NOTICE THE WITCHER STANDING NEARBY.
- This forest was full of surprises - like this cyclops corpse. After a quick inspection, I concluded that the giant had been killed by a frightener. The locals were in for some real trouble if such a dangerous insectoid was prowling the area.
- Sometime later I crossed paths with Dehael. Talkative little snot was on an errand, but as usual, he had time to ask me a long list of questions.
- If Dehael is ignored
- I didn't have time to chat, however.
- Besides the frightener, some draconids were wreaking havoc in the forest. The only remnant of their latest victim was a chewed-off arm. I tracked the monsters and killed them.
- After twenty-four hours, the Great Mushrooming was over. A raging fiend interrupted the awards ceremony. Good thing I was there to help, otherwise the day would've ended in tragedy.
- If the main prize is won
- I killed the fiend, and I won the title of Champion Mushroomer! Not only did I earn a trophy and "eternal glory," but, most importantly, I took home a fat winner's purse.
- Before I left, I told the mayor about the frightener tracks I'd come across earlier. He promised he would soon have someone summon me to discuss the matter with him further.
- THE AWARDS CEREMONY HAD BARELY BEGUN WHEN SUDDENLY. A RABID, RAGING FIEND STORMED INTO THE CROWD. IT WAS ITS UNLUCKY DAY, HOWEVER, GIVEN THE PRESENCE OF A CERTAIN WITCHER AT THAT VERY CEREMONY...
