Sins of our Fathers is a quest in The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

Walkthrough[]

The quest begins by finding an unconscious witcher. It turns out that he intentionally put himself into hibernation. A note found next to him orders you to bring him to the local herbalist, Varik.

Varik orders you to collect the ingredients needed for the antidote - drowner's saliva and mugwort. The herbalist gives the player character a potion that is supposed to make the body immune to toxins, but also has a negative effect on the stats. After drinking the potion, you have 2 hours to find the ingredients. During the quest, you must kill a drowner for its saliva and a giant centipede guarding the location of the mugwort. These monsters aren't too demanding, but you can make the fight easier by using a necrophage or insectoid oil and a silver sword.

After receiving the ingredients, Varik prepares the antidote and orders you to wait until tomorrow, when the mysterious witcher wakes up. After visiting the herbalist again, the witcher introduces himself as Vesemir and offers you to fulfill a certain contract insted of him. Varik gives you an antidote for the anti-toxin potion. After completing the quest, you receive the Brother in Arms trinket.

Journal entry[]

While Thorstein and I were exploring Dol Tirthana, we stumbled upon a witcher kneeling on the ground. It seemed he'd self-induced hibernation. I thought I'd seen him around Kaer Morhen, but I couldn't put my finger on his name. The wound on his arm, though ugly, could not be the cause of his current state. Beside him lay a small note: "Bring me to Varik the herbalist. Tell him he was right."
I carried the unconscious witcher to the herbalist, Varik. The man, who turned out to be as eccentric as he was grumpy, revealed that my colleague had ignored his advice and stubbornly decided to walk through some highly poisonous plants without a protective decoction. I promised to find the ingredients for an antidote.
I was able to collect the drowner's saliva and mistle root. The herbalist told me to visit the witcher the next day. He'd have regained consciousness by then.
So I did.
Vesemir - the witcher I rescued. Though the passing years and mistle poisoning didn't manage to tame his sharp tongue, it'll be a good while before he can return to The Path. As thanks for rescuing him, he gave me some supplies and suggested I take over a contract he wasn't in a state to complete. I'll return to him for details if I decide take it.
WHEN THEY RETURNED TO THE HEALER'S HUT, THE WITCHER WAS AWAKE. THOUGH CLEARLY WEAKENED, NURSING ONE ARM IN A SLING, HE TURNED A SHARP GAZE ON HIS VISITORS. HE THEN STOOD WITH DIFFICULTY AND PROPOSED THAT THEY SPEAK OUTSIDE.
