This the Circana data for February 2023, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $4.600 billion^[1]. This is the first month under the new Circana name instead of NPD.

Overall[]

A total of $495 million for Hardware. This is up 68% from 2022. For video game content, there was a total of $3.893 billion, up 1% from from 2022. For Accessories, there was a total of $212 million, up 13% from 2022.

In terms of hardware, the Playstation 5 led in both units and revenue followed by the Switch for units and the Xbox Series for revenue. The major increase is primarily from the Playstation 5 which set a new unit record for a Playstation platform for the month.

In terms of software, Hogwarts Legacy became instantly the best selling game of the year. The other notable new releases; Wild Hearts, Like A Dragon Ishin! and Octopath Traveler, all performed around the same level. Company of Heroes 3 appear is respectable for a PC-exclusive release, especially considering the genre. The Last of Us: Part II returns to the top 20 in relation with the TV series following The Last of Us: Part I's performance that started in January.

In terms of mobile, the positions are largely the same with Pokémon Go rising by 23% compared to January and 10% from last year. Pokémon Day events contributed to its performance.
