The viceroy gown was a type of red gown. Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray[1] wore the viceroy gown with a red hat while on the planets Utapau and Mustafar in the final days of the Clone Wars. In the final moments of the war, Gunray was struck down by Lord Vader at the final redoubt of the Separatist Council on Mustafar and died wearing his viceroy gown.[2] The gown remained on the Trade Federation leader's rotting corpse for decades onwards.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The viceroy gown first appeared in the 2005 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.[2] The gown was first identified in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.[1] The 2014 non-canon reference book LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side identifies the clothing as "expensive robes."[4]
