The Vandrayk Scale was a measurement that related to the likelihood for an asteroid to house the exogorth species. A majority of the asteroids of the Anoat asteroid belt^[1] in the Outer Rim^[2] were poor candidates on the Vandrayk Scale, though exogorths nonetheless inhabited the asteroid field. When the Galactic Empire attempted to locate the Rebel Alliance vessel Millennium Falcon in the asteroid field following the Battle of Hoth^[1] in 3 ABY,^[3] Commodore Rae Sloane determined that the Falcon had been hidden inside an exogorth by discovering the bodies of mynocks, creatures that could be found in exogorths' mouths. Admiral Firmus Piett doubted the possibility, and Sloane agreed that it would seem unlikely, citing the Vandrayk Scale.^[1]

The Vandrayk Scale was mentioned in the short story "Lord Vader Will See You Now," written by John Jackson Miller for the 2020 anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.^[1] Its name is a reference to^[4] Gorman Vandrayk, a character in the Star Wars Legends comic series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, also written by Miller.^[5] Introduced in the series' third issue, published by Dark Horse Comics^[6] on March 29, 2006,^[7] Vandrayk possessed expertise regarding exogorths.^[5]
