For other uses, see Valara (disambiguation).

Valara was one of two moons orbiting the native planet of Batuu in the Outer Rim Territories. It shared an orbit with Destra, which was not visible from Black Spire Outpost.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Valara is part of the backstory for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a Star Wars-themed land that opened in Disneyland on May 31, 2019; followed by Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29, 2019.[3] Since Valara is referred to as the one moon visible from Black Spire Outpost, the Earth's actual Moon "portrays" Valara in the parks.[1]

It was reported that August 14th, 2015, one day before the announcement of Galaxy's Edge, Lucasfilm filed trademarks for the names "Mon Destra" and "Valara," with no explanation for what they referred to. Though some fan sites suggested a connection to a fan fiction character named Darth Destra, and the name Valara already existed in Star Wars Legends as Jedi Master Valara and Force Adept Valara Saar.[4]
