Wookieepedia

Between the demise of Legends/rise of NuCanon and an increasingly hectic real life, I am no longer active on Wookieepedia. I may only visit once or twice in a year now instead of every day like I used to.

The recurring tasks of my bot, AJTD6, have been transferred to Xd1358 and EcksBot. Please direct any questions about them to him.'

Most questions should be directed to someone who is currently active instead of me. If you do need to ask me specifically, I have email notifications enabled for messages on this page, so I should respond in a reasonable amount of time, but I don't guarantee that (I reserve the right to be away from the computer for a few days at a time without notice here).

Jedi archives

Welcome to my talk page. All are welcome here. (Except trolls, who will be blocked.)

Please take a moment to read the following notes:

  • Don't ask to ask; just ask your question.
  • Please keep the conversation together in one place, so that it can be read easier. That means if you post here, I will reply here, and if I post on your talk page, please reply on that page, not here. If I don't reply to a message on your page within a couple of days, ping me here to trigger an email notification.
  • Please do not use repeat or non-descriptive headings like "Request", as these headings make the table of contents difficult to navigate, and duplicate headers complicate section linking in the event I need to link to a discussion from this page elsewhere.
  • Please do not engage in general chit-chat here. Wookieepedia is not a social network. If it doesn't relate to Wookieepedia or Wikia, it probably doesn't belong on this page.
  • Due to my reduced time on Wookieepedia, I no longer take copy-edit requests, period. This applies even for novice nominators and for articles with active objections for a copy-edit. Sorry, but I just don't have the time anymore.

Card game CT[]

Hi MJ, thanks to your help with the card game issues! I thought I would let you know I just made a CT proposal in relation to our discussions. Have a good weekend! Manoof (talk) 03:07, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

Got it. I'll look at it later. I've been super-super-busy all month and haven't even looked at my watchlist in I think over three weeks, so I need to budget a whole afternoon or evening soon to get caught up on everything around here. —MJ— Comlink 03:20, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

Card game citations part 2[]

Hi MJ. As one of the bot masters and coding experts, I would appreciate if you could weigh and give us your thoughts on this thread. We're trying to solidify the new Card Game Citations idea before sending it to the Consensus Track again.--Richterbelmont10 R2 sig(come in R2!) 16:40, July 16, 2015 (UTC)

  • In the Card game citations thread, Tope requested that the font size of the cards be the same as the font size used in the {{C|}} template (like this). I reduced the font size and produced an example of what that would look like in the thread, I used the <small></small> command. However, this had the undesirable side-effect of making the the {{Po}} and similar template text "super small" (like this). Is it possible to make the card names small and keep the {{Po}} and similar template text the same size as the card? Like this:

  • Card: Bravo Pilot, Veteran Flyer (Picture only)

--Richterbelmont10 R2 sig(come in R2!) 18:29, August 20, 2015 (UTC)

The simple solution would be to put the </small> before the template instead of after the template. Alternatively, given that this will be done in Lua most likely, another solution that's cleaner from an HTML standpoint might be to remove the "small" tags from the {{Po}} and similar templates with a call to string.gsub(args.tags, "</?small>", ""). The cleanest and best solution would be to replace the small tags in the templates with a CSS class and code in MediaWiki:Common.css that renders the text small except when inside the list template. So yes, it can be done; it's just a matter of which way would be the best combination of ease and cleanness. —MJ— Holocomm 19:22, August 20, 2015 (UTC)

Tense[]

i have been reading alot of the posts about the alien and other species on here and ive been noticing something that has been bugging me for a while why do all the descriptions refer to all the species in the past tense "they were" and so forth as far as i know these species haven't been wiped out so why are all the articles written as if they are Unsigned comment by Jinxo35 (talk • contribs).

All in-universe articles on Wookieepedia are written in the past tense, as Star Wars takes place "a long time ago". Please see the Manual of Style for more information. —MJ— War Room 19:53, August 2, 2015 (UTC)

Approval to Link Here[]

Hello, Master Jonathan.

I am an administrator on the Disney Infinity Wiki. We are about to start a project there that calls for us to add a section at the bottom of certain pages that will link to the same subject’s page on other wikis. We are going to start soon, but we want to respect the work of other communities, so we are asking permission first. Would you and your community be okay with us linking to your wiki?

Thank you,

CerealBoxHead46. (My sig only works if I make a page for it first.) Unsigned comment by CerealBoxHead46 (talk • contribs).

You don't need our permission. :) Plenty of other sites link to our stuff in this manner, and I don't know of one case where they actually asked permission first. And we link to several other sites in the same manner also. Go right ahead. :) —MJ— Training Room 21:31, August 6, 2015 (UTC)
Alright, thank you! :)

Fanon[]

I am a Star Wars fan like anyone else on her. I want to share my character Mex Atner with the world! Why won't you let me? Unsigned comment by Arider 56107 (talk • contribs).

Wookieepedia only accepts information that has appeared in official sources. Information that you made up yourself is fanon, which is not allowed here. However, you may be interested in the Star Wars Fanon Wiki, which as the name implies, does accept fanon, such as your characters. You can use the same account there that you are using here. Help[]

Greetings! I saw your contribution to the USERNAME template page, and I'd like to know if you're capable and willing in helping me design such a template on a new wiki (SaharaTheDesertSamurai.Wikia.com) to greet users on our homepage. --KotoTalk Page-My Contributions 04:33, July 30, 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, but I rarely have time to get on here in the first place, and will have even less time since I finally got hired at a new job today. MasterJonathan@wookieepedia.com:~$ 05:28, July 30, 2016 (UTC)

AJTD6[]

Hey MJ. I hope this message finds you well. Recently I've moved EcksBot over from my old Linux laptop to my Ubuntu VPS. However, when trying to use AJTD6, I run into the following error:

ecksbot@do:~/EcksBot/AJTD6$ ./master.py

Any idea what could be missing? Cheers, 1358 (Talk) 20:03, January 31, 2018 (UTC)

  • The pip you're running is for a different Python than what you're running the script with. IIRC my scripts required (or at least were designed for) Python 3.x, while your last two lines there indicate you're invoking a pip running on Python 2.7. If you know the name of the Python you're running the scripts with (I hope you do), you can make sure to invoke the correct pip with pythonX -m pip [arguments], where pythonX is the name of the Python the script will be run with. MasterJonathan@wookieepedia.com:~$ 02:30, February 1, 2018 (UTC)
    • Success! Thank you very much. 1358 (Talk) 21:09, February 1, 2018 (UTC)
      • No problem. In general, running pythonX -m pip instead of just invoking pip directly is always a good idea for that reason. There are also a few edge cases where it's actually required (the most notable being when updating pip itself on Windows, since Windows does not allow a running executable to modify itself), so getting into the habit of always doing it is A Good Thing™. Hi Master Jonathan. My name is WodiQuix and I am attempting to make a Wookieepedia article on my Battlefront character, Wodi Quix. The page is really for my eyes only and it is currently in the sandbox, as I want to edit it further and eventually print it out. Would it be possible to move the page directly to my profile so that I don't have to be afraid of it being deleted? Thanks!

your former user sub-pages[]

Hello, MJ. I see that before your departure, you handed off ownership of your bots. I'm curious whether something similar happened with your user sub-pages. For instance, I occasionally found it handy to cite User:Master Jonathan/Proper use of the comma, but that page is now gone. Has another user taken over hosting it? If not, would you mind if I did so (giving full credit to you as its author, of course)? If you'd rather I didn't, that's totally fine; I can always point to Wikipedia pages for such things, but it's nice to keep pointers local when possible.

Did you have other sub-pages that were useful as Wook-wide grammar/punctuation references? The comma guide seems to be the only one I saved a link to.

You can post here or email me at [email address removed], whichever is easier for you. Thanks, and hope post-Wookieepedia life is treating you well. Asithol (talk) 02:34, November 30, 2018 (UTC)

No, I never handed off anything except the bots. The comma guide was the only such guide I had, and I never properly finished it. If you want to host it in your own userspace with credit, you are more than welcome to do so. You have my permission to move the page yourself. (P.S. I removed your email address since some spambots are smart enough to decode constructs like you used. It's still in the page history, but harder for them to find.) MasterJonathan@wookieepedia.com:~$ 02:41, November 30, 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate the permission. However, I cannot move the page, because it's no longer accessible; the link above merely redirects to your (now-empty) user profile. (If it were still visible, I'd just continue to link to it directly rather than asking to move it.) Asithol (talk) 18:01, December 6, 2018 (UTC)
I reverted the redirect and moved the page to User:Asithol/Proper use of the comma. Feel free to tweak it as needed there, including rewriting the introduction and removing the header comment I added if desired. MasterJonathan@wookieepedia.com:~$ 22:00, December 6, 2018 (UTC)
Perfect! Thank you so much! Asithol (talk) 15:59, December 7, 2018 (UTC)
No problem. MasterJonathan@wookieepedia.com:~$ 16:07, December 7, 2018 (UTC)

Old create protection[]

You blocked Revenge of the sith from creation. The problem is, StarWars.com links to that page under the Wookiepedia link. We should either create that page as a redirect or contact the StarWars.com admins (if that is even possible).

Note06767 (talk) 13:01, July 13, 2019 (UTC) (sorry for my bad username)

*sigh* I'd really prefer that StarWars.com fix their link, but that's out of our control. At any rate, it appears one of the admins has restored the page. If you have any issue with one of my admin actions in the future, please contact a current admin directly or post on the administrators' noticeboard. I have not been an admin for several years, so the administrative autonomy policy no longer applies to my actions (and I no longer have the capability to change them anyway).
