"What happened to the charitable work? You never wanted to be a soldier. You hated the very idea of it."
―Max, to Rel[1]

A charitable organization was founded to help individuals find and reunite with their families after being separated during the Clone Wars. Founded by 0 BBY, the organization attracted the attention of the Alderaanian Rel during his time as a student. He would later join the organization and travel off-world, inadvertently avoiding the Destruction of Alderaan by the Galactic Empire. Afterward, Rel left the organization to join the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Description[]

The charitable organization was founded to help families reunite after having been separated in the fallout of the Clone Wars,[1] which lasted from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.[3]

History[]

Rel

The Alderaanian Rel worked for the organization until he was recruited by the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Founded by 0 BBY,[2] the organization attracted the attention of the Alderaanian Rel during his time as a student. Rel felt privileged to have grown up on a planet as prosperous as Alderaan and joined the organization as a way to give back after completing his studies. Because he was off-world working for the organization, Rel was not present for the Destruction of Alderaan by the Galactic Empire and the death of his family. Shortly thereafter, the work he was doing with the organization began to feel empty next to what he considered to be the evil of the Empire. Several weeks later,[1] in 0 ABY,[2] Rel left the organization and was recruited into the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[1]

Sometime later, while enlisted with the Rebellion, Rel was working as a scout during a battle against the Galactic Empire on the Outer Rim moon Shard when he ran into his childhood friend, Max, who was on the opposite side of the battle as a cold weather assault stormtrooper. The pair called a truce and talked about their lives since they last saw each other. Max was particularly surprised that Rel had left his charitable work to become a soldier.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The charitable organization was mentioned in "The Song of Winter's Heart," a short story written by Cavan Scott and George Mann for the Life Day Treasury anthology, which was published on September 7, 2021. Prior to the book's release, the organization was first mentioned in a preview for the short story in a StarWars.com article published on September 3 of the same year.[4]
