"We have additional local information, related to your reports so far. There are 3 main markets on Jedha: one in the Holy City, one for the pilgrims, and the last one is hidden."
―Communication from the Star Destroyer to an Imperial spy[1]

At some point by 1 BBY, the Galactic Empire used a Star Destroyer during a mission on the moon Jedha. An Imperial spy traveled to the moon's surface in order to retrieve a crate of kyber crystals from a crash-landed Imperial shuttle, while Imperial Command monitored the mission from aboard the orbiting Star Destroyer. During the mission, the spy communicated with the starship in order to update their superiors on their progress. Ultimately, the Imperials aboard the Star Destroyer arranged for a combat assault tank to be dispatched as reinforcements in order to allow for the retrieval of the crystals from a mercenary stronghold.

Description[]

"Tracks analyzed."
―Communication from the Star Destroyer to an Imperial spy[1]

The Galactic Empire used a Star Destroyer with a bridge[1] similar to that of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer.[2] The bridge had at least seven computer workstations, and its crew numbered at least eight. The starship was equipped with a communications system that allowed to contact operatives and military units on a planetary surface.[1]

History[]

Tracing the crash-landing[]

"We found the ship's altitude reports."

The Star Destroyer assisted with an Imperial mission to retrieve kyber crystals from a crash-landed Zeta-class Heavy Cargo Shuttle (pictured).

At one point by 1 BBY,[3] an Imperial spy was tasked with retrieving a crate of valuable kyber crystals after the Imperial Zeta-class Heavy Cargo Shuttle transporting it had crash-landed on[1] the moon[4] Jedha. The spy traveled incognito to Jedha City to meet an informant for more details; meanwhile, Imperial Command closely observed the mission's progress from aboard the Star Destroyer that orbited the moon. The craft remained within communications range, and the spy's superiors expected regular updates.[1]

After the spy met the informant, the former contacted the orbiting Star Destroyer, with Imperial Command subsequently finding and relaying to the operative the altitude reports on the shuttle at two different times of its descent. The spy then used the information available to them to narrow down the shuttle's crash site in the desert outside of Jedha City. After the agent traveled there, they updated the Imperials aboard the Star Destroyer, who then analyzed the tracks found nearby the shuttle's wreckage. That information allowed the spy to locate the injured shuttle pilot, who had left the crash site. Retrieving a code cylinder from the fainted pilot that would allow for the opening of the shuttle's locked airlock, the spy then requested for Imperial Command to send him help.[1]

Crystal hunt[]

"We are sending you reinforcements."
―Communication from the Star Destroyer to the Imperial spy[1]
TX225OccupierTank-Unlock

After the Imperial spy called the Star Destroyer for reinforcements, a TX-225 GAVw "Occupier" combat assault tank was dispatched in response.

The spy later learned from a pilgrim of the Clan of the Toribota that the crate of kyber crystals had been stolen by the profiteer Jalice Andit. The pilgrim further informed the agent that Andit would only agree to return the crate in trade for other valuables and handed them a commercial license for operating in markets on Jedha. At that point, the spy contacted the Star Destroyer with another update. Imperial Command then notified the spy about the existence of three principal markets on the moon, with one situated in Jedha City, another, desert-located venue focusing on Jedha's pilgrims, and a third market whose location was not generally available information.[1]

Managing to find all three of the markets, the spy went on to present Andit with an assortment of acquired goods for trade; however, the profiteer revealed that the kyber crystals had in turn been stolen from her by the mercenaries of the insurgent leader Saw Gerrera. In order to retrieve the crystals from the mercenaries' stronghold, the spy requested that the Star Destroyer send reinforcements. Subsequently, an armored transport delivered to the fortress an Imperial stormtrooper unit operating a TX-225 GAVw "Occupier" combat assault tank, which was able to penetrate the stronghold's defenses, thereby allowing for the retrieval of the crystals.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Star Destroyer appeared in "Secret Mission on Jedha," a scenario of Space Cowboys' 2020 canon card game Unlock!: Star Wars Escape Game. The illustration used to depict the starship in the game[1] re-used artwork[5] by Mark Molnar[6] that had originally been introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity via inclusion in the 2014 Core Rulebook of Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game series.[5]
