"Mercenary vessels hired by the Andoan loyalists—in direct violation of the Treaty of Raquish—began harassing Andoan natives."
―CIS Shadowfeed news report[3]

The Treaty of Raquish was signed by the Galactic Republic at some point between 39 BBY and 23 BBY and restricted the use of military forces by the group of planets known as the Andoan Free Colonies. During the Clone Wars, amid a period of escalating tensions between the Free Colonies and the planet Ando, the anti-Republic news and propaganda program CIS Shadowfeed reported on the Free Colonies supposedly employing mercenaries against the inhabitants of Ando, an act that was characterized as a direct violation of the treaty.

Description[]

The Treaty of Raquish was a pact[3] that shared its name with the Mid Rim's Raquish system.[4] It restricted the use of military forces by[3] the fifteen planets settled by the Aqualish species known as the Andoan Free Colonies.[5]

History[]

"Breaking their own longstanding weapons restrictions against the Andoan people, the Republic has armed Aqualish loyalists against the Andoan natives that have separated from the Republic."
―CIS Shadowfeed news report[3]

The Treaty of Raquish was signed by the Galactic Republic as part of its efforts to demilitarize[3] Ando, the homeworld of the Aqualish,[6] and its surrounding space.[1] The treaty came into effect[3] in the wake of the Battle of Raquish, the 39 BBY engagement that ended the Andoan Wars between the Spiverelda, a group of Aqualish-colonized worlds under Ando's influence, and the Andoan Free Colonies.[1]

Subsequently,[3] in 23 BBY,[2] Ando seceded from the Republic,[7] eventually leading to re-escalating tensions between the planet and the Free Colonies. During the Clone Wars, a 14:4:12 release of the CIS Shadowfeed news and propaganda program of the Republic's enemy, the Confederacy of Independent Systems, informed that mercenary vessels supposedly hired by the Free Colonies had "harassed" the Aqualish of Ando. The report went on to characterize that act as a direct violation of the Treaty of Raquish.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Treaty of Raquish was mentioned in "CIS Shadowfeed Dispatch 14:4:12 Edition," an article written by Pablo Hidalgo as an in-universe news report. It was published in the sixty-seventh issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine[3] on March 28, 2003.[8]
