"Assessor, this is Dorion Discus. Ah, negative on customs inspection. We have a priority cargo for the Imperial base on Markon IV. Our priority authorization is filed on Thorgeld."
―Roark Garnet attempts to bluff the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor[3]

Thorgeld I, also known as Thorgeld, was a Core Worlds planet. The mansion of Fabritech, Inc. head Kvarn Mandel and his family was located on the planet, in the underground city of Fabrin. During the Galactic Civil War, the crew of the light freighter Dorion Discus visited Thorgeld I. Shortly after the freighter left the planet, the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor attempted to board the vessel for a customs inspection, but the Dorion Discus eventually escaped into hyperspace.

Description[]

Thorgeld I,[2] also known simply as Thorgeld, was a terrestrial planet[3] that occupied the first orbital position[2] in the Thorgeld system, a part of the Northern Dependencies portion of the Core Worlds.[1]

History[]

"I.N.S. Assessor, calling stock light freighter. Identify yourself, please."
"Ah, Assessor, this is the freighter Dorion Discus."
"Stand by, Dorion Discus. Prepare for customs inspection."
―Roark Garnet responds to the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor hailing the Dorion Discus over Thorgeld I[3]

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, the crew of the light freighter Dorion Discus—which included the smuggler Roark Garnet; the bounty hunter Tantos Dree; the retired Imperial captain Jackson Farseeker; and Farseeker's granddaughter and Garnet's daughter, Jill—visited Thorgeld I. Shortly after leaving the planet, the Dorion Discus was confronted by the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor, which ordered Garnet's freighter to stand by for customs inspection boarding.[3]

Hoping to stall for time before executing a hyperspace jump out of the system, Garnet contacted the Assessor and claimed that the Dorion Discus could not be boarded. The smuggler further bluffed that his starship was carrying important cargo for the Imperial base on the celestial body Markon IV and that priority authorization for the shipment had been filed on Thorgeld I. However, the crew of the Assessor did not fall for Garnet's attempt at bluff and fired a warning shot at his ship in response. Eventually, the Dorion Discus engaged the frigate in combat above Thorgeld I before finally escaping to hyperspace.[3]

Locations[]

Fabrin was an underground city on Thorgeld I that featured a maze of corridors. The mansion of Kvarn Mandel, the head of Fabritech, Inc., and his family was located in the corridors of Fabrin during the time between the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Endor. Despite regularly traveling to his company's sector headquarters, Mandel returned home on Thorgeld I at least once a month.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The planet Thorgeld was first mentioned in the 1987 rulebook for the first edition of West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim, a 1993 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook written by Simon Smith and Eric S. Trautmann, provided the planet's full name.[2] In 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Thorgeld system, and therefore Thorgeld I, in grid square L-9.[1]
