The summer meadow dress[1] was owned by Padmé Amidala, Senator of the planet Naboo, as part of her extensive wardrobe.[2] The off-shoulder, golden-colored dress was supported with shoulder straps. Reflecting the culture of the Naboo people, it was made of natural materials and accented with pink hand-sewn roses on the dress itself, its embroidered tulle shawl, and the rose-accented headband worn with it.[1] Pastel-hued ribbons encircled her wrists, and additional ribbon held back the portion of her hair that was not gathered in buns on either side of her head.[2]
When Amidala had to hide in the Lake Country due to ongoing assassination attempts, she was accompanied by the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker for her protection. During the retreat, she wore the dress for a picnic with Skywalker in a meadow.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The summer meadow dress first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.[2] The finished costume was created by costume designer Trisha Biggar and her department.[3]
The silk cloqué bodice was layered over an old-gold silk organza blouse. Seven-color computerized filigree embroidery created the initial design on the bodice, and the roses from the tulle were appliquéd on top to tie the two fabrics together.[3]
