Stephen David Daldry is an English filmmaker best known for directing Billy Elliot, The Hours, and The Reader.

Daldry was originally hired by Lucasfilm Ltd. to direct a Star Wars Antholoy film focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Ewan McGregor set to reprise his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy and produce as well.[1] Reports of Daldry making an Obi-Wan film dated back to August 2017, with The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reporting that Daldry was in early talks to join the project and that he would oversee the development of the film's writing, even though at those stages there were no scripts or actors attached to the project.[2][3] Once secured with the job, Daldry contacted Hossein Amini to join the project, chatting with him before Amini met with Lucasfilm.[4] However, once the project evolved from a film into a television miniseries due to Lucasfilm's intentions to expand their content to Disney+, The Walt Disney Company's streaming service, Daldry departed from the project and was replaced by The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow.[1]
