Snail fish were a type of fish[1] that partially shared their name with snails, a type of creature with shells.[2] Following the Republic Defense Coalition and the Jedi Order's attack on the Nihil's Lightning Crash space station[1] in 228 BBY,[3] Jedi Master Elzar Mann used his Jedi Vector's tractor beam to pull in one of the station's escape pods, reflecting that it was as easy as catching a snail fish from a tide pool.[1]

Snail fish were mentioned in the 2024 novel Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4] In the real world, snailfishes are a type of ray-finned fish.[5]
