Simbarc was an Outer Rim Territories mining planet located in the Cadma sector. It had both rich ore deposits as well as several famous casinos, at one of which around 1 BBY, the smuggler Han Solo was caught cheating. The casino's security team pursued Solo and his partner, Chewbacca, in a speeder chase that ended with the two smugglers ultimately escaping to the hangar where their starship waited for them.

There, however, the pair was captured by the crime lord Sollima, whom they owed a debt to. The gangster then forced Solo to partner up with his acquaintance Billal Batross on a mission to retrieve a droid of Sollima's from the Imperial world Moog Mot VI. In the meantime, Sollima transported the captive Chewbacca to the Hollow Moon gambling space station in order to make him participate in gladiatorial fights.

Description[]

Simbarc was a terrestrial mining planet^[1] located in the Simbarc system, a part of the Cadma sector^[3] in the Slice portion of^[2] the Outer Rim Territories.^[1] It was situated on the Cadma Conduit hyperlane, which linked it to the Dagelin Minor system as well as the Oseon system in the Centrality sector and the Junkfort system^[2] of the Tharin sector.^[4]

The planet had rich deposits of ore, and its treacherous surface featured high pillars of rock that were connected to each other via elevated roads for both landspeeder and pedestrian use. The climate on Simbarc was cool enough to make at least two Humans visiting the planet wear warm parkas.^[1]

History[]

Cheating on a casino world[]

In approximately 1 BBY,^[5] the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca visited Simbarc's Dakata spaceport, where Solo cheated at the sabacc tables at the local casino in order to pay back the debt the pair owed to the crime lord Sollima. The cheating Solo, however, was caught by the casino's security team, after which Solo and Chewbacca escaped on a landspeeder while the security team gave chase aboard an airborne repulsorcraft.^[1]

Solo attempted to fend off the pursuers with his blaster pistol while one of the security guards, tethered to the team's vehicle, jumped onto the smugglers' speeder. The chase ended, however, when Chewbacca drove the landspeeder off the edge of the pillar they were traveling on, causing the vehicle to crash into a lower rocky platform. As the security team then opened fire with their blaster rifles, Solo and Chewbacca—who were in the middle of an argument over the amount of trouble their escapades had been bringing them—were forced to run back to the spaceport hangar where their light freighter, the Millennium Falcon, had been landed in.^[1]

Captured by a crime lord[]

Sollima and his underlings, however, were already waiting for the pair at the hangar and subsequently captured them and tortured Solo. Sollima then forced Solo to perform a job for him—the smuggler was to travel to the Galactic Empire's banking world Moog Mot VI^[1] in the Tharin sector^[6] and retrieve the accounting droid that the Empire had supposedly stolen from the crime lord—though in reality, it had been sold to the Empire by Billal Batross, a former thieving partner of Solo's who had become similarly indebted to Sollima—and was keeping there.^[1]

In addition, Sollima would keep Chewbacca hostage to ensure that the pair would not simply flee after being released—but since Solo still needed a copilot for the mission, he was paired up with Batross. He and the released Solo then left Simbarc on their mission aboard the Millennium Falcon while Sollima and his entourage simultaneously departed aboard their own starship, bringing Chewbacca along with them as a prisoner. The ship then traveled to the Hollow Moon, a^[1] Hutt Space^[7] gambling space station run by Sollima, where the gangster planned to have Chewbacca fight in a series of gladiatorial death matches.^[1]

Inhabitants[]

The security team of the Dakata spaceport's casino included Galactic Basic Standard–speaking members of various species, including a Bothan.^[1]

Locations[]

The surface of Simbarc was dotted with casinos that were famously "loose." The planet's Dakata spaceport contained one such casino.^[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Simbarc first appeared in Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya, the first entry in Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars Adventures series of graphic novellas. Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya was written by Jeremy Barlow, pencilled by Rick Lacy,^[1] and published on April 29, 2009.^[8] The August 18, 2009^[9] reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Simbarc system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square T-8.^[2]
