Shiffrin was an Outer Rim Territories planet located in the Tammuz sector. Constable Kallin Bremen maintained law and order in a small village there. At one point, a Shiffrin farmer discovered what turned out to be large deposits of the valuable ore hfredium, and the Galactic Empire subsequently established a garrison there and began confiscating the properties of local landowners. Bremen was eventually executed after planning a peaceful demonstration against the confiscations, and his son, Jak Bremen, went on to leave the planet.

Description[]

Shiffrin was a terrestrial planet[3] located in the Shiffrin system, a part of the Tammuz sector[1] in the Slice portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] The planet had large deposits of hfredium, a semi-precious ore used in weapons manufacturing.[3]

History[]

Jak Bremen

Jak Bremen grew up on Shiffrin.

At one point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, a farmer on Shiffrin discovered a small amount of hfredium. When he reported the find to the authorities—in the hopes of obtaining a reward in return—an Imperial garrison was instead established on the planet and the farmer's land was confiscated. As Shiffrin's hfredium deposits, initially believed to be relatively small, were discovered to actually be much larger than was predicted, an increasing number of other landowners had their properties seized, as well, with the countryside being slowly carved up in order to meet the needs of the Imperial Military.[3]

Arguing that the standard Imperial procedure for the confiscation of private property was thus being violated, Kallin Bremen, the chief constable of a Shiffrin village, protested against the Empire's actions, only to see his complaints ignored. Bremen subsequently organized the planet's disgruntled landowners and planned and led a peaceful demonstration to make their concerns known to the sector's Imperial Moff. The commander of the Shiffrin garrison, however, claiming the group were agitators of the Rebel Alliance, immediately arrested the protesters, and the Moff ordered them all executed. The surviving Shiffrin locals were shocked by the atrocity but also frightened into compliance by fear of further mass executions. Bremen's young son, Jak, escaped the planet aboard a mining transport, going on to wander the Outer Rim Territories.[3]

Locations[]

Shiffrin was the site of a small village where the constable Kallin Bremen maintained law and order and raised his son, the Human Jak. Eventually, an Imperial garrison was also established on the planet.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Shiffrin was first mentioned in the 1994 The Last Command Sourcebook, written by Eric Trautmann for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Shiffrin system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square T-15.[2]
