"Commander, we've received a binary transmission from an old clone unit on Seelos, something about a Jedi."
An Imperial officer to Agent Kallus and Admiral Konstantine[2]

Seelos was a remote desert planet in the star system of the same name in the Kwymar sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Once considered a prospective mining world, by the Age of the Empire all attempts at settlement and exploitation had been abandoned, in part due to the deadly joopa worms living under the surface of the vast salt plains. Seelos was largely uninhabited, though there were isolated settlements of outlaws at the foot of the mountains, as well as retired clone troopers Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor.

Description[]

Located in the Seelos system of the Outer Rim's far-flung Kwymar sector,[1] Seelos was a desert world covered in a sparse landscape of salt plains and barren flats,[4] punctuated by blue mountain chains made up of valuable ores such as copper.[5][6] It was home to large plated, worm-like creatures known as joopas, which were considered dangerous and avoided by the planet's few occupants. The danger joopas presented also thwarted attempts to mine in the planet's mountains.[6]

Seelos was largely devoid of homesteads or organized settlements; instead, a few outlaw towns housed a population of exiles such as criminals and marked men. Outside of the towns, such individuals lived in various hideouts, boltholes, and campsites in the mountains, from where they were protected from joopa attacks as well as bounty hunters.[6]

History[]

At some point prior to 4 BBY,[7] mining interests attempted to secure the valuable resources present in the planet's mountains. However, they soon abandoned the world after deadly joopa attacks made further operations impossible. The Galactic Empire considered Seelos abandoned, home only to criminals and the bounty hunters tracking them.[6]

After the Clone Wars, Seelos became the home to several former Republic clone troopers: Captain Rex and Commanders Wolffe and Gregor. These ex-soldiers lived on an ex-Grand Army of the Republic AT-TE walker, repurposed as a joopa fishing craft.[2] Hunting primarily to feed themselves, they also traded excess joopa meat and plating with the outlaw settlements in order to keep their walker operating.[6]
