- "Which will lose its figurehead if we don't get you to the Scupper. Do you know where it is?"
"At a private landing field, near the Roalj Temple…property of one of our donors." - ―Marda Ro and Elecia Zeveron
The Roalj Temple was located on the Mid Rim moon Jedha in its Holy City. In 382 BBY, the prospector Sunshine Dobbs landed his yacht, the Scupper, near the temple at a private landing field owned by one of the Path of the Open Hand cult's donors. By 1 BBY, the Phirmist Guch Ydroma visited the Roalj Temple and summoned water that he sealed into a bottle to be sold within the Holy City. That year, the city was destroyed by the Galactic Empire's Death Star battle station.
Description[]
The Roalj Temple was located in the Holy City on[2] the Mid Rim[3] moon Jedha.[2]
History[]
By 382 BBY,[4] during the High Republic Era, the Roalj Temple was located near a private landing field owned by a donor of the Path of the Open Hand cult.[2] That year,[4] the Path traveled to Jedha, and the prospector Sunshine Dobbs landed his yacht, the Scupper, at the landing field near the Roalj Temple. While on the moon, the group instigated the Battle of Jedha, during which its leader—Elecia Zeveron, who was also known as the Mother—became injured.[2]
After Zeveron reunited with Guide of the Path of the Open Hand Marda Ro, the latter asked the Mother where the Scupper was. When Zeveron informed Ro of its location, the pair set out for the starship with the Path member Bokana Koss. As they made their way toward the temple, the Guide mentally lamented that the journey was proving to be a "long trek." Eventually, the three, by then also accompanied by a creature known as the Leveler, reached the Scupper and left Jedha.[2]
By 1 BBY,[5] the Phirmist Guch Ydroma visited the temple during a desert pilgrimage and used his mystical ability, which he claimed to have been gifted with during his pilgrimage, to summon water. He then sealed the water in a bottle that he marked with the temple's name.[3] That year,[5] the bottle was among those Ydroma sold within the city to other believers and those who were thirsty.[3] Also by that year, the Roalj Temple had been destroyed when the rest of the Holy City was destroyed by the Galactic Empire's Death Star battle station.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Roalj Temple was first mentioned, as the Roalj temple, in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, written by Pablo Hidalgo.[3] The capitalization of the "T" in the temple's name was provided in the 2023 young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Vengeance, written by Cavan Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase II.[6]
