"I certainly turned up and filmed a day, but I can't find myself in the movie! I think I ended up as a droid. I thought I was a fighter pilot. I can't find where I am."
―Richard Armitage, on his role in The Phantom Menace[1]

Richard Armitage (born August 22, 1971) is an English actor, writer, and composer who portrayed an unnamed Bravo starfighter pilot in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1] He is best known for playing Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit film trilogy (co-starring Sir Christopher Lee).

The Phantom Menace was one of Armitage's first forays into cinema, and like co-stars Dominic West and Christian Simpson, Armitage found himself being inquired about his early role in the film. During the filming, Armitage was only present for one day. When the film was released in theaters, Armitage was unable to find himself in the movie, and was unsure whether his character ended up as a droid or a fighter pilot, though he recalled having one line to Ewan McGregor,[1] who played Obi-Wan Kenobi,[2] in an interview with the entertainment news website Hollywood.com.[1]

After the release of the 2019 novel Queen's Shadow, author E. K. Johnston stated that the character of Tonra from the novel was Armitage's character in The Phantom Menace.[3]
