"Now we just hope that your engineers were right about what they needed."
"Sure. Once we're free and clear of the Mid Rim, we get to put this whole botched retreat in the past. Lick our wounds before the next massacre."
―Everi Chalis and First Sergeant Hazram Namir, during a raid in the Redhurne system[1]

The Redhurne system, or simply Redhurne, was a once-inhabited star system in the Mid Rim's Metatessu sector, which was devastated when its star had a supernova and wiped out all traces of life and civilization from its orbits. The aftermath left the innermost planets of the system cracked open with their cores exposed to radiation, which formed materials that were mined during the late days of the Galactic Republic and the era of the Galactic Empire. The MC80 Star Cruiser Aurora Flare stopped at the Redhurne system in 1 ABY.

In 3 ABY, the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry targeted an Imperial heavy freighter arriving in the Redhurne system for supplies to repair the damaged hyperdrive of the CR90 corvette Thunderstrike. The corvette and its escort attacked the heavy freighter and the Thunderstrike sent a boarding party onto the vessel. Although Imperial reinforcements hastened the rebel withdrawal, the 61st was able to acquire the resources they needed before fleeing the system.

Description[]

The Redhurne system,[1] also referred to as just Redhurne,[2] was a star system located in the Metatessu sector of the Mid Rim Territories. The system was at one point inhabited by a civilization and comprised of a number of planets and at least one moon—the moon eventually becoming shattered—which orbited the Redhurne star. After the star went supernova, leaving behind a post-nova fragment, the worlds among the system were left devastated, becoming devoid of life,[1] and the innermost planets were cracked open by the star's gravitational pull,[3] at least one asteroid being formed as a result. The post-nova fragment of the Redhurne star transmitted radiation which transmuted materials[1] within the broken planets that could be processed as hypermatter fuel like coaxium.[3]

History[]

Mining operations[]

"It's the Aurora Flare, last stop Redhurne. Carrying a full load of coaxium."
―An Imperial officer, to Admiral Tyrus Meori[2]
Aurora Flare

The Aurora Flare (pictured) was present at the Redhurne system before it traveled to the planet Mon Cala.

The Redhurne system was devastated, and its life wiped out, by its sun's supernova centuries prior to the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.[1] After a study into purrgil creatures and Clouzon-36 gas by scientists led to the discovery that coaxium could naturally be formed in areas subject to high interstellar energy, the scientists were able to connect their findings to the Redhurne system and the planet Kessel, determining that the respective locations had prominent sources of hyperfuel.[3] The system thus became a target for mining operations, and during the final days of the Galactic Republic, orbital mining stations operated by skeleton crews collected these materials using scavenging drones.[1]

After the Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire[1] in 19 BBY,[4] the new government came to use the space stations by the time of the Galactic Civil War.[1] By 1 ABY,[5] great refineries that processed coaxium were used in the Redhurne system.[6] That year,[5] the Aurora Flare, an MC80 Star Cruiser in the Mon Cala Mercantile Fleet, stopped in the Redhurne system before traveling to[2] the ocean planet[7] Mon Cala with a load of coaxium.[2]

Rebel raid[]

"Imperial freighter. We have been monitoring ion-storm activity in the system. For your own safety, please alter your course."

In 3 ABY,[8] the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry, better known as Twilight Company, traveled to the Redhurne system with the intention of raiding an Imperial cargo transport to repair the damaged hyperdrive of their CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike. The Thunderstrike hid in the shadow of the shattered moon while its escort, the Braha'tok-class gunship Apailana's Promise, awaited behind an asteroid that had once been part of a planet. When an Imperial heavy freighter arrived in the system, Everi Chalis, an Imperial governor who had defected to Twilight Company, convinced the vessel to change course, pretending to still hold her former position in the Empire.[1]

The Thunderstrike and Apailana's Promise ambushed the Imperial heavy freighter, the former ship sending a boarding party onto the freighter via boarding pods. While the rebel boarding party acquired supplies for their corvette's hyperdrive, the rebel ships harried the freighter and its TIE fighters. An Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser soon arrived in the system and moved to join the battle, which forced the rebels to hasten their withdrawal from their target. The Thunderstrike and the Apailana's Promise ultimately escaped with the remainder of their boarding party and the needed supplies.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Redhurne system first appeared in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, written by Alexander Freed.[1] In the forty-ninth issue of the 2015 Marvel Star Wars comic series—written by Kieron Gillen[2] and published on June 6, 2018[9]Admiral Tyrus Meori was told that the Aurora Flare had been to the Redhurne system before going to Mon Cala.[2] Conversely, the 2021 reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy states that Meori was informed that the cruiser was carrying coaxium bound for Redhurne's refineries.[6] This article uses the information from Star Wars 49.
