"See, I know why you think that, Neeku, but the markings on this ship are clearly from Reaper Squadron. See, in the Clone Wars, they never used the Z-96. Only the Z-95."
―Kazuda Xiono, to Neeku Vozo[1]

Reaper Squadron was a legendary starfighter squadron in service to the Galactic Republic's Republic Starfighter Corps during the Clone Wars. Known for their skills with the Clone Z-95 Headhunter, they once fought in the skirmish over the planet Castilon. One of their fighters was discovered in Castilon's Karavian Trench by the pirate Synara San in 34 ABY.

Description[]

Reaper Squadron was a starfighter squadron of the Galactic Republic's Republic Starfighter Corps[2] that was active by 19 BBY[3] during the Clone Wars[1] fought between the Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems.[4] The squadron consisted of at least three Clone Z-95 Headhunters and at least three clone trooper pilots, one of whom was a scout.[2]

History[]

"Kaz, you're just in time. We're bringing it up now. You said you were looking for some parts for the Fireball. Well, this might be your ticket."
―Synara San, to Kazuda Xiono and Neeku Vozo[1]

Synara San, Neeku Vozo, and Kazuda Xiono discover the wreckage of one of Reaper Squadron's starfighters.

Reaper Squadron participated in remote conflicts such as the skirmish over[2] the planet[5] Castilon. Despite the Clone Z-95 Headhunter's negative reputation, Reaper Squadron's members became legendary for their skills with the starfighter.[2] They were mentioned in a section on the design lineage of the T-65B X-wing starfighter in Official History of the Rebel Movements, Volume One, a project by Lieutenant Voren Na'al and Major Arhul Hextrophon of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[6]

In 34 ABY, decades after the end of the war,[7] the wreckage of one of the squadron's fighters was recovered from[1] Castilon's Karavian Trench[8] by undercover pirate Synara San, who intended to give it to Team Fireball so they could repair their racing starfighter of the same name. Mechanic Neeku Vozo initially misidentified the fighter as a Z-96, but was shortly thereafter corrected by Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono, who was familiar with the squadron's history. Shortly thereafter, the infant rokkna Bibo emerged from the starfighter, alarming the trio. San later used the excuse of finding more of Reaper Squadron's fighters as a ploy to spend more time with Xiono, hoping to learn more about his involvement with the Resistance.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Reaper Squadron was first mentioned in "Bibo,"[1] the twelfth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which premiered on January 13, 2019.[9] An image of the squadron was created for Atomic Mass Games' Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition's Clone Z-95 Headhunter Expansion Pack, which was first revealed in a tweet advertising the game that was posted on May 19, 2022.[10]
