"A pump intake valve, like Neeku was showing me."
―Kazuda Xiono[1]

A pump intake valve was a type of water valve utilized for diverting water flow and pressure in piping systems. In 34 ABY, the technician Kazuda Xiono and astromech droid BB-8 utilized one such device to foil a theft being carried out by a group of pirates on the supertanker fuel depot Colossus.

Description[]

"Proper control of the valve system could very much save lives."
―Neeku Vozo, to Kazuda Xiono[1]

A pump intake valve was a type of water valve that saw use on the supertanker fuel depot Colossus, including in Sector 7-E. The device was used to divert water flow and pressure in case of emergencies. They could also suck external objects into the piping system they were connected to. One such model was big enough for the Resistance astromech droid BB-8 to fit inside.[1]

History[]

"I don't know what you're complaining about. Is it worse than getting blasted?"
―Kazuda Xiono, after saving BB-8 using the pump intake valve[1]

The pirates sent thermal detonators into the pump intake valve after BB-8.

In 34 ABY,[2] the technician Neeku Vozo taught[1] his[3] coworker, Kazuda Xiono, how to maintain and control the pump intake valve as well as the larger piping and valve system of the Colossus. Xiono found the information useless and expressed as much to BB-8.[1]

Shortly afterward, Xiono and BB-8 encountered a group of pirates attempting to steal weapons from Sector 7-E of the Colossus. Xiono sent BB-8 into a nearby air duct to spy on the pirates, but the droid fell into the room they were in. Xiono utilized the pump intake valve's suction capabilities to rescue[1] him,[3] funneling BB-8 out of the room and into the greater piping system. The pirates responded by throwing thermal detonators into the pump intake valve after BB-8, though they were diverted thanks to Xiono's control of the system. The pirates were arrested by Colossus security droids shortly afterward.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The pump intake valve appeared in "Sector 7-E," a short comic written by Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt and penciled by Valentina Pinto. The comic story was published as part of the seventeenth issue of the 2017 run of Star Wars Adventures, which was released by IDW Publishing[1] on January 30, 2019.[4]
