"Padawan? Sorry to stick you with yet more library duty."
―Qui-Gon Jinn, to Obi-Wan Kenobi, in the palace library[1]

The cavernous, marble-tiled palace library of the Inner Rim planet Pijal was situated within the Pijali monarchy's royal palace. In 40 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, discussed the Czerka Corporation's alteration of a recent Pijal system census's results in the library, comparing the numbers to the local tallies that had been stored there. Afterward, Kenobi visited the library for a second time to contact the Jedi High Council via comm terminal.

Description[]

The palace library of the Pijali monarchy was located on the Inner Rim planet Pijal within the world's sprawling royal palace. By the time of the Republic Era, the library had fallen out of regular use, resulting in much of its equipment becoming covered in dust. The cavernous, marble-tiled library had several windows, data solids, and holographic comm terminals.[1]

History[]

"These are the 'official' census results. But by going into local census records, I was able to pull other sets of numbers—which I suspect are more accurate."
―Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Qui-Gon Jinn, in Pijal's palace library[1]

Obi-Wan Kenobi contacted the Jedi High Council via hologram in the palace library.

Around 40 BBY,[2] a census was carried out in the Pijal system, and copies of both the official overall results and the local tallies were stored in the library. Not long afterward, Czerka Corporation officials took the copy of the event's official results and falsified them to lessen the population count of Pijal's moon.[1]

While on a mission to Pijal[1] in 40 BBY,[2] Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, met in the palace library to discuss the census results and how the tallies had been used to draft the Governance Treaty, an initiative that would form a representative Assembly based on the census's proportions of Pijali citizens. As they reviewed Czerka's alterations to the census's original results, both Jedi were wary of someone overhearing their conversation. Afterward, Jinn refused to ratify the Governance Treaty on the Galactic Republic's behalf after deciding that Czerka was corrupt, additionally citing his violent dreams warning of trouble if the initiative proceeded. Later that night, Kenobi visited the library for a second time to contact the Jedi High Council through a comm terminal to discuss his displeasure with Jinn's refusal to carry out their mission mandate. After the Padawan's conversation with the Masters, he was appointed as the Republic's ratifier in Jinn's place.[1]
