Ord Lithone was an Inner Rim world that served as a Galactic Republic outpost during the Pius Dea Era. Millennia later, it hosted a Baktoid Armor Workshop factory. In 22 BBY, citing the increased Republic regulations on battle droid manufacture and sales as a reason, Baktoid announced the closure of several of its factories, including that on Ord Lithone.
Description[]
Ord Lithone was a terrestrial[2] world[4] located in the Ord Lithone system, a part of the Northern Dependencies portion of the Inner Rim.[1] A hyperlane linked it to the Chalenor and Gyrica systems.[3]
History[]
Ord Lithone served as an Ordnance/Regional Depot outpost for the Galactic Republic during the Pius Dea Era, a period of time that lasted between approximately 12,000 BBY and 11,000 BBY.[3] By 22 BBY,[5] Baktoid Armor Workshop, a manufacturer of battle droids and vehicles[2] that was a subsidiary of the Trade Federation,[6] maintained a factory on Ord Lithone.[2] In the wake of its unsuccessful invasion of[6] the planet Naboo in 32 BBY,[7] in a calculated move the Trade Federation had[6] Baktoid Armor Workshop announce the closure of several of its manufacturing plants in Republic space, including on Ord Lithone, by the end of the month 13:3—a decision that would result in a layoff of an estimated 12.5 million employees of factories in the Colonies and the Inner Rim.[2]
The announcement was reported in the 13:3:7 issue of the CoCo District Edition of the HoloNet News, with the report including an image depicting surplus B1-Series battle droids at the plant of Ord Lithone. Baktoid Armor Workshop cited the Republic's increased regulation on battle droid manufacture and sales as the reason for the closure;[2] however, in reality the company secretly moved its factories to the Outer Rim Territories beyond the Republic's jurisdiction.[8] Ord Lithone fell within the borders of the New Republic between 12 ABY and 13 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Ord Lithone was introduced in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #46, an issue of the representation of the in-universe HoloNet News[2] that was written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens, illustrated by Joe Corroney,[9] and published by March 14, 2002.[10] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Ord Lithone system, and therefore the world itself, in grid square L-8.[1]
