"[…] to this day one occasionally sees this script used in military contexts with little attention paid to its sinister origins. Military bunkers on Storinal and Hanod, New Republic task forces, and even a few Ordnance/Regional Depot worlds such as Ord Dalet were identified by Common Sith letters."
―Doctor Milanda Vorgan, "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic"[5]

Ord Dalet was an Outer Rim Territories planet located in the Sertar sector. It was a Galactic Republic Ordnance/Regional Depot outpost established no earlier than the time of the Old Sith Wars and was named after the letter "dalet" from the Common Sith writing system. Around 3638 BBY, a member of the Shi'ido species became hospitalized on Ord Dalet.

Description[]

Ord Dalet was a terrestrial planet[3] located in the Ord Dalet system, a part of the Sertar sector[1] in the Trans-Hydian portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1]

History[]

Ord Dalet was an Ordnance/Regional Depot[5] outpost established by the Galactic Republic[4] at some point no earlier than the time of the Old Sith Wars,[5] which lasted between 3996 BBY and 3956 BBY.[6] As a consequence of defections and counter-defections between the military forces of the Republic and those employed by the Sith tradition of Force-users during that time, letters of the Common Sith writing system came into use by the Republic's military, and Ord Dalet became one of several Ordnance/Regional Depots designated by them—in its case, the letter "dalet." That fact was eventually noted by the xenolinguist Doctor Milanda Vorgan in her 38 ABY publication "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic."[5]

Around 3638 BBY,[7] a member of the shapeshifting sentient Shi'ido species became hospitalized on Ord Dalet. Due to the biological extraordinarity of the Shi'ido, an individual affiliated with one of the sides in the ongoing struggle between the Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire subsequently sent a companion to assist in the study and treatment of the patient.[3]

Locations[]

Ord Dalet had a hospital.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

"The occasional use of letters (Common Sith or otherwise) for Ordnance/Regional Depots, is new information, as is the example given. Some may wonder at the creation of new O/RDs after the Old Sith Wars, given The Essential Atlas's hinting that they were created during the term of Chancellor Contispex and the Pius Dea Crusades; however, O/RDs were still being created as late as the Clone Wars when, as Pirates & Privateers notes, Ord Antalaha was established."
―John Hazlett[8]

Ord Dalet was introduced in the article "The Written Word," which was authored by John Hazlett and published on StarWars.com Hyperspace on March 5, 2010.[5] The StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Ord Dalet system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square R-5.[1]
