Ochotl was an Outer Rim Territories agriworld located in the Airam sector. The company Ochotl Ag harvested the chak-root plant on the planet, which was also the homeworld of the galaxy-renowned shockball player Kob Mondray.

At some point by 22 BBY, Ochotl Ag's competitors set into motion events that devastated the future prospects of the company, which was further compounded by a pirate attack that destroyed Ochotl's orbital depots. Following the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Ochotl and the rest of the Airam sector left the Galactic Republic and joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Description[]

Ochotl was an agricultural planet^[2] located in the Ochotl system, a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Airam sector.^[1] It was situated outside the location known as the Pangarees and was circled by orbital depots. On Ochotl, the company Ochotl Ag harvested chak-root,^[2] a plant originating from^[4] the Corporate Sector planet^[5] Erysthes.^[4]

History[]

Ochotl was the birth world of the Human Kob Mondray, who eventually became a shockball player. In 31 BBY, he led Ochotl Ag's corporate shockball team to participate in the Airam Sector Championships. That marked the start of Mondray's shockball career that over the subsequent years led him to become a galactic celebrity—although, despite his amassed wealth and luxurious residences on such worlds as Kuat and Spira, the athlete never felt comfortable in the Core Worlds.^[2]

In order to better compete with the agricultural companies of the Pangarees, at some point by 22 BBY, Ochotl Ag became a member of the Corporate Alliance. The competitors of the Ochotl-based firm, however, had influence with the courts of the Galactic Republic, and an investigation was launched into a possible infestation of Ochotl by^[2] the creatures^[6] known as Corris-weevils.^[2]

Although no evidence for the infestation was discovered, Ochotl was placed on a three-year probationary list, and Ochotl Ag lost its entire chak-root crop, with the market for its goods effectively having been destroyed. Furthermore, while the Corporate Alliance was attempting to have Ochotl's case arbitrated, pirates based at Nocto,^[2] in the Nocto system,^[5] destroyed the depots in orbit around Ochotl. The Republic Outland Regions Security Force, which was also indirectly linked to Ochotl Ag's competitors, only made half-hearted attempts to respond to the attack.^[2]

In 22 BBY, the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, of which the Corporate Alliance was a member, broke out.^[5] Subsequently,^[3] the entire Airam sector,^[2] including Ochotl, seceded from the Republic and joined the Confederacy,^[3] and in 22 BBY,^[7] Mondray, who had become troubled by his homeworld's plight while it was still part of the Republic, also announced the end of his career in shockball in favor of serving as part of the Confederacy military.^[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Ochotl was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the section that would have mentioned the planet was cut before the book's release.^[2]

The information regarding Ochotl was later released in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and^[2] Del Rey editor^[8] Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.^[2] The StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Ochotl system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square L-20.^[1]
