"[…] the Maxet Institute of Technology is a vocational school, accredited on its own level of education, but certainly not of the stature of institutes qualified to grant the terminal degrees allegedly in the possession of Rin."
―Major Herrit, Imperial communique #46553.27h[1]

The Maxet Institute of Technology was a vocational school that existed by the time of the reign of the Galactic Empire. The credentials of the sentientologist Obo Rin alleged that he had acquired several advanced academic degrees from the institute; however, Imperial Intelligence Major Herrit subsequently claimed that the school was not qualified to grant such degrees.

History[]

Obo Rin signature

The credentials of Obo Rin (signature pictured) included several terminal academic degrees from the Maxet Institute of Technology.

The Maxet Institute of Technology was a vocational school[1] that shared its name with the Outer Rim Territories' Maxet system.[2] It was accredited on its education level, and the credentials of the sentientologist Obo Rin indicated he had been granted several terminal academic degrees by the Maxet Institute of Technology.[1]

At some point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, Imperial Intelligence Major Herrit performed a background check on Rin, whom the Empire had commissioned to author a reference work detailing the various sentient species of the galaxy. Herrit subsequently sent communique #46553.27h, addressed to[1] the Galactic Emperor Palpatine's apprentice, Dark Lord of the Sith[3] Darth Vader, in which the major criticized Rin and claimed that the Maxet Institute of Technology was not qualified to grant the degrees it had supposedly conferred upon the researcher. In a reply communique, Vader's aide Captain Solistein dismissed Herrit's "unsolicited opinions" and, in response to the latter's criticisms of Rin's qualifications, only stated that Vader had not ordered Herrit to perform a background check on the sentientologist.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Maxet Institute of Technology was mentioned in Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a 1989 sourcebook authored by Troy Denning for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1]
