Magnetic thermal detonators[3] were hemispherical versions of the Class-A thermal detonator[2] manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc..[4] The flat surface was magnetized, allowing the detonator to be attached to metal objects, or to a bandolier for carrying.[2] In 21 BBY,[5] Jedi Commanders Ahsoka Tano and Barriss Offee attempted to use magnetic thermal detonators to destroy the control room of a major droid foundrey during the Second Battle of Geonosis. When a group of Geonosians took the bombs, they improvised by using a super tank to fire on the generator.[1]
In 19 BBY,[5] Tano, at that time a Force-Sensitive Outcast due to leaving the Jedi Order, took several magnetic thermal detonators and a bandolier from a Pyke Syndicate armory on Oba Diah. She planted several of the detonators in a sansanna spice refinery, primarily to destroy the facility, with the explosions also providing a distraction allowing Ahsoka, Trace and Rafa Martez to escape their capture by the Pykes.[2]
