- "Long ago, when our planets and the moon Eirie exploded into being, Krel was born at the heart of Eiram. His birth unleashed the oceans and storms. When he swam across Erasmus, waves carved mountains into flat coast lines. Krel tended to Eiram, nurturing his world until it began taking on a life of its own, plant life and creatures sprouting from land and sea. As the ages passed, he transformed into shark form—though he retained his beard—which is why they have tusks under their lower mandibles."
- ―Phan-tu Zenn explains the origin of krel sharks
Krel sharks were a type of shark that lived on the planet Eiram. According to legend, the deity Krel transformed into the sharks. Around 397 BBY, when he was young, the future heir to Eiram, Phan-tu Zenn, was stuck in the oceans of Eiram and was surrounded by krel sharks, none of which harmed him.
Biology and appearance[]
- "I was in that ocean for what felt like an eternity. It was me and the krel sharks, thousands of sea creatures that had been displaced by the storm. But they didn't harm me."
- ―Phan-to Zenn recounts his experience with krel sharks
Krel sharks were a type of[1] blueish-gray[2] shark that were from the oceans of the planet Eiram. Each year, people were sometimes lost to the krel sharks of Eiram's oceans. They had tusks under their lower mandibles, which, according to legend, were due to the Eirami deity Krel having transformed into the sharks as ages passed.[1]
History[]
- "Wild krel sharks would have to devour me alive before I renege on my word to you."
- ―Phan-tu Zenn expresses his commitment to Xiri A'lbaran
Around 397 BBY,[3] Phan-tu Zenn, a boy native to Eiram, was dragged out to sea by a monsoon, he was surrounded by krel sharks, who did not harm him while he was there. Zenn eventually survived the ordeal and was adopted into Eiram's royal family.[1]
In 382 BBY,[4] when Xiri A'lbaran, heir to the planet E'ronoh's throne, crashed in an ocean on Eiram, Zenn swam to try and save her, cutting through the water like a krel shark. Zenn later told the short version of the sharks' origin and described his encounter with them to the human Axel Greylark, son of Supreme Chancellor Kyong Greylark; A'lbaran, with whom he was now betrothed; and Jedi Knight Gella Nattai. The former telling was prompted when Zenn metaphorically assured A'lbaran that wild krel sharks would have to eat him alive for him to take back his promise to marry her.[1]
Later that year,[5] during a peace celebration between the previously warring Eiram and the planet E'ronoh, a large Eirami transport colored similarly to a krel shark flew alongside an E'roni cruiser.[2]
