"Think about Koshaga, Kref. Now picture what happened to your home happening everywhere."
―Andry Ked, to Emon Kref[1]

Koshaga was a planet that was home to the Koshagan people. Many Koshagans were part of the Koshagan People's Movement, an armed rebellion that fought against Koshaga's tyrannical ruling class. However, around 3 ABY, the Galactic Empire intervened on Koshaga, crushing the People's Movement in a swift operation that sent the survivors into full retreat across the Koshagan Lowlands. A week after the operation, a Rebel Alliance recruiter secretly went to Koshaga on a transport and left a day later, the Koshagan Emon Kref having enlisted with them.

Description[]

Koshaga was a terrestrial planet located within a star system.[1]

History[]

By the time of the Galactic Empire, Koshaga was led by a ruling class. The tyrannical nature of its rule was resisted by an armed rebellion known as the Koshagan People's Movement, which fought a war against the leadership and those who supported it. The Koshagan uprising lasted many years until the Empire chose to intervene[1] around 3 ABY.[2] The Imperial Military arrived with waves of stormtroopers backed by vehicle forces. In a swift operation, the Imperial forces swarmed the Koshagan Lowlands, its vehicles destroying everything in sight. The People's Movement quickly lost its lines of defense, with various leaders being captured and imprisoned and the remaining forces being forced into a full retreat.[1]

The retreating soldiers of the Koshagan People's Movement were pursued through the Lowlands by large numbers of stormtroopers, including at nighttime. The stormtroopers cut the armed rebels off everywhere they turned while the former's vehicles continued to lay waste to the land. The few survivors were ultimately led to safety by the Koshagan rebel fighter named Emon Kref. A week after the Empire's devastating operation on Koshaga, a recruiter for the Rebel Alliance, a galaxy-wide movement against the Empire, quietly arrived on the planet on a transport, having heard about the Koshagan uprising. Kref enlisted with the recruiter and left his homeworld on the secret transport a day later.[1]

Just a few weeks after the Empire had put an end to the Koshagan uprising, Kref served as a rebel soldier during the defense of the Alliance's base on the ice planet Hoth against the Empire. During the battle, a burning smell reminded the soldier of the ashes of Koshaga, giving him flashbacks of when Imperial forces were hunting him and the other survivors of the Koshagan People's Movement. As the Imperials on Hoth continued their relentless advance on rebel lines, Kref asked his comrade, the Alderaanian Andry Ked, why they were fighting the Empire if they did not stand a chance against it. Ked replied that the Empire's shadow would pass, but not before it was pushed down relentlessly into darkness, adding that what happened on Koshaga was happening everywhere in the galaxy.[1]

Inhabitants[]

Koshaga was inhabited by the proud and strong-willed Koshagan people. The Koshagan People's Movement consisted of great numbers of infantry that were well-armed and well-supported with resources. One soldier was Emon Kref, a Koshagan native whose father was a general and leading member of the People's Movement. Kref had been born into the war on Koshaga and lived much of his life on the planet as a soldier for the Koshagan People's Movement. When fighting with the Rebel Alliance on Hoth, Kref considered the rebels there to be far less-numbered and less-equipped than the People's Movement.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Koshaga was introduced and appeared in flashbacks in "Beyond Hope," a short story written by Michael Moreci for the 2020 anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.[1]
