"Normally they're very docile. They lose their minds a little when they get hungry."
"You're saying I was its dinner?"
"Never doubt the appetite of a korgee beast."
―Ruug Quarnom and Obi-Wan Kenobi[2]

Korgee beasts were a species of creature found on the planet Cato Neimoidia. They had four short, stumpy legs,[2] large bodies—taller than 1.82 meters[1]—covered in fur, and black noses. They ate meat, and while they were typically docile creatures, they were known to become more aggressive when in a state of hunger.[2]

In 22 BBY,[3] a korgee beast attempted to attack and feast upon Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was investigating a recent bombing of the Cadesura district of Cato Neimoidia's capital city, Zarra. Neimoidian Royal Guardswoman Ruug Quarnom shot the beast with her sniper rifle to defend Kenobi, then provided medical aid to it using a medpac and laser sutures while her partner, Royal Guardsman Ketar Nor, fed it rations. Nor then threw a ration into the distance, luring the korgee beast away from the trio. Later, Kenobi returned to the site of the disaster to investigate a mysterious bunker, and tossed several hunks of raw meat away from himself to lure multiple korgee beasts away.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"This is why corgi fur (erm, "korgee beast" fur) is used as a tracking item on DS9 and Cato Neimoidia. It gets more places than sand!"
―Mike Chen[4]

Korgee beasts appeared in the 2022 novel Brotherhood, written by Mike Chen.[2]

Notes and references[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 According to StarWars-DatabankII Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Databank (backup link), Obi-Wan Kenobi is 1.82 meters tall. Brotherhood states that, when standing upright, a korgee beast would "tower over" Obi-Wan Kenobi. As a result, it can be assumed that korgee beasts are taller than 1.82 meters.
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 2.8 2.9 Brotherhood
  3. Brotherhood is set between the beginning of the Clone Wars and the Battle of Christophsis, as the novel's plot involves Anakin Skywalker becoming a Jedi Knight, a rank he attained between those events. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates both events to 22 BBY, Brotherhood, including Ruug Quarnom's aid to the korgee beast, must be set in that year.
