The Karltonian Fiskin was a rare, unusual, and valuable coin from the Core Worlds' Karltonia system. Originating during the era of the Galactic Republic, by the time of the Galactic Civil War it was mostly seen in the collections of historians. One Karltonian Fiskin was a part of the collection of the crime lord Randar Dowellin, which was stolen by Bon Seqours, a sympathizer of the Rebel Alliance.

Dowellin subsequently employed a group of bounty hunters to use a scanner in order to track down the pieces of his stolen collection, many of which he had laced with a chemical tracer. Seqours attempted to hide at the Farrimmer Cafe eatery on the Mynock 7 Space Station, where he gave the Karltonian Fiskin as a tip to the waiter droid M-3PO. The bounty hunters then tracked the coin to the establishment, where their attempt to disable the droid led to a shootout involving other patrons of the eatery in which the hunters were defeated.

Description[]

The Karltonian Fiskin was a type of unusual coin[1] that originated in[3] the Karltonia system of the Core Worlds.[2]

History[]

A collection stolen[]

TrandoshanBountyHunter-Journal11

A group of bounty hunters equipped with a scanner attempted to track down the stolen Karltonian Fiskin.

The Karltonian Fiskin originated during the time of the Galactic Republic,[1] which existed for twenty-five millennia up until 19 BBY.[4] By the time of the Galactic Civil War, fought between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance[1] between 2 BBY and 4 ABY,[4] the coin had become rare and extremely valuable, most commonly being found in the collections of true historians. One Karltonian Fiskin ended up in a collection of unique Republic artifacts kept in the stronghold of the crime lord Randar Dowellin. It was one of the many pieces of the collection that Dowellin laced with a chemical tracer that could be tracked with the help of a scanner in case of a theft.[1]

At one point, the Human Bon Seqours, who was sympathetic to the Alliance and believed that many local crime lords posed a problem to the galaxy's inhabitants, particularly those residing in the Outer Rim Territories, carried out a heist at Dowellin's stronghold in which the latter's collection of artifacts, including the Karltonian Fiskin, was stolen. Carrying it and several other stolen coins on his person, Seqours subsequently attempted to avoid a group of bounty hunters Dowellin had sent out to track down the stolen artifacts.[1]

In the leg of a waiter[]

"It seems that Dowellin's men were a bit closer than I suspected. Luckily the tracer chemical is confused by the bubbling of the Harmon Kizzlebrew."
―Bon Seqours[1]

Bon Seqours gave a Karltonian Fiskin to M-3PO (pictured) as a tip.

The thief entered the Farrimmer Cafe eatery—with which he was familiar—aboard the Mynock 7 Space Station[1] of the Outer Rim's Mayagil sector[5] and, spotting a group of individuals tasting a plate of steamed yazstrimskizzies, approached them and joined them at their table. Seqours ordered a round of the beverage Harmon Kizzlebrew, which paired well with the yazstrimskizzies—but the bubbling of which he also knew would interfere with the ability of the bounty hunters' scanner to detect the tracer chemical.[1]

Seqours then threw a few coins, including the Karltonian Fiskin, onto the tray of the waiter droid M-3PO. The droid, who was secretly stashing tips in order to save up for a full-treatment oil bath, then hid the coins in a concealed storage compartment in his right leg before walking into the establishment's kitchen. When the other individuals at the table, who noticed the unusual coin, inquired Seqours about it, the thief denied any knowledge of it.[1]

Eventually, the bounty hunters followed their scanner's signal into the Farrimmer Cafe, where, due to the interference caused by the Harmon Kizzlebrews, they were forced to start to methodically interrogate the eatery's staff and customers. At one point, M-3PO emerged from the kitchen again, with the scanner detecting the presence of the coin inside his leg. The bounty hunters then attempted to disable the droid, leading to a shootout at the establishment in which the hunters were ultimately defeated.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

StarWarsAdventureJournal11

The Karltonian Fisking was introduced in Star Wars Adventure Journal 11.

The Karltonian Fiskin appeared in "The Farrimmer Cafe," a roleplaying source article authored by Jean Rabe and J. Allan Fawcett for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the November 1996 eleventh issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal magazine. The coin appears in one of the relatively interconnected roleplaying adventure episodes presented in "The Farrimmer Cafe," and the article suggests that the gamemaster player make the player characters noticing and identifying the Karltonian Fiskin one of the game's dice-rolling challenges.[1]

Furthermore, "The Farrimmer Cafe" does not establish the coin's fate in wake of the shootout with the bounty hunters, only noting that Bon Seqours thanks the player characters for their assistance and then leaves the Farrimmer Cafe, and that the eatery's droid staff, which includes the surviving M-3PO, dispose of any bodies—with it also being noted that the establishment's owner, H'nib Statermast, claimed the possessions of anyone perishing there. This article assumes that the scenario plays out as described.[1]
