This article is about the Tunroth colony world.
You may be looking for another Tunroth-occupied astronomical object, Saloch².

Jiroch-Saloch, also known as Saloch, was a world in the Mid Rim's Yushan sector. At some point after receiving galactic-level technology, the hunting-oriented Tunroth species colonized the planet. Spacers referred to Jiroch-Saloch, together with the Jiroch system's other worlds Jiroch-Reslia and Jiroch-Kalok, as the Triumvirate. A number of Duros also settled on the planet, leaving a strong influence on its architecture.

Description[]

Jiroch-Saloch,[5] also known as Saloch, was a terrestrial planet that occupied the fifth orbital position in the Jiroch system,[3] located in the Western Reaches portion of the Mid Rim's[1] Yushan sector[2] and connected via the Corellian Trade Spine hyperlane to the Dalisor system and the[1] Bruanii sector's[6] Quamar system.[1]

The Reslian Purge, during which the Lortan Fanatics (a member depicted on the bottom left) attacked the Jiroch system

Millennia prior to the Galactic Civil War, the Tunroth species colonized the Jiroch system planets Jiroch-Saloch and Jiroch-Kalok after they had become a member of the Galactic Republic, in the process gaining access to galactic-level technology[3] and developing hyperdrive technology.[5] Jiroch-Saloch, together with Jiroch-Kalok and[3] the Tunroth homeworld,[5] the Jiroch system's planet Jiroch-Reslia, were often referred to by spacers as the Triumvirate as a dedication to the Assemblage of Three.[3] The Assemblage consisted of the three highest-level Tunroth hunters governing Tunroth society,[5] who promoted Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Saloch's simultaneous colonization.[3] Many Duros also settled on both worlds for a time and strongly influenced the local architecture.[4]

In 10 BBY,[5] the expansionist Lortan Fanatics attacked the Jiroch system in the event named the Reslian Purge.[3] The Tunroth were unable to repel them with their primitive technology, resulting in millions of Tunroth casualties[5] and their population being reduced to four million. The fanatics were thwarted and further attacks were halted when the Galactic Empire intervened, after which reconstruction efforts took place on the three Jiroch system worlds.[3] The Tunroth New Republic pilot Xarcce Huwla hailed from Jiroch-Saloch.[7] Around nine months after the Battle of Endor[8] of 4 ABY,[9] her homeworld was identified on a profile displayed on a datapad that was viewed by the leader of the New Republic's Rogue Squadron, Wedge Antilles, at the time of Huwla's recruitment into the unit.[7]

Inhabitants[]

Jiroch-Saloch was colonized by members of the Tunroth species.[5] They developed a peaceful civilization focused around hunting communities;[3] hunters were the most respected in Tunroth society.[5] They developed little technology beyond simple animal power prior to joining the Republic and receiving the technology that allowed for Jiroch-Saloch's colonization. Despite subsequently possessing such technology, few Tunroth wandered the galaxy as many had returned to their home system to aid in rebuilding it. The species lived in communes of between roughly 50 and 300 individuals, each led by a tracker.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Jiroch-Saloch was introduced via mention in an entry written by C. Robert Carey for Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, a roleplaying supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1995. Initially identified as Saloch,[3] Ultimate Alien Anthology, a 2003 supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, provided the full name of the planet.[5] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Jiroch system, and therefore Jiroch-Saloch, in grid square K-17.[1]
