"Because this is the place the Force showed the Mother during the flood. She was meditating deeply and saw this chunk of ice and an artifact known as Jedi Tears, a necklace made with a rare stone that reacts to the Force. That's our next liberation."
―Cincey, on the Graf compound[1]

The Jedi Tears was a necklace made of a rare Force-reactive stone. It was rumored to be part of the same set of Force artifacts as the Rod of Seasons, Rod of Ages, and Rod of Daybreak.[1] By around 382 BBY,[2] the necklace was owned by the Grafs, a family of ruthless, wealthy hyperspace prospectors. The Jedi Tears was kept in their family compound on the ice planet Thelj. The Mother, the leader of the Path of the Open Hand cult from the planet Dalna, saw the necklace in a Force vision while meditating. Having been "liberating" Force artifacts through a team called the Children, the Mother informed the team that the Jedi Tears would be the target of their next heist. However, her true motive was to dispose of the Children.[1]

In preparation for the job, Children member Cincey contacted the personal secretary of Jacinda Graf, the compound's owner, about a possible sale of the Jedi Tears. They posed as a buyer interested in making an offer on behalf of the Hynestian royal family, the owners of the Rod of Seasons before the Children stole it. The secretary's response stated that Graf and her entourage would be off-planet for the next month, but she would be happy to discuss a possible transfer of ownership afterwards. When the Children, without Cincey, prepared to carry out the theft, Radicaz Dobbs, an associate of the Mother who flew them to Thelj in his starship, Scupper, contacted the Graf compound and warned them of the approaching thieves. In the ensuing ambush, Treze and Kor Plouth were killed, while Yana Ro survived and began plotting revenge against the Mother.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jedi Tears were mentioned in the 2022 young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Deceit, written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II.[3]
