"The rise of extremism necessitates a bold new initiative: the official integration of the Jedi Order into the Grand Army of the Republic."
Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine[1]

The Jedi Military Integration Act was an act passed in the Galactic Senate[1] in 22 BBY[2] during the Clone Wars that officially put the Jedi Order in command of the Grand Army of the Republic. Jedi Knights and Masters were formally granted the rank of Jedi General, and Jedi Padawans were granted the rank of Jedi Commander.[1]

The passage of the act escalated the involvement from both sides of the war. The increased militarization of the Galactic Republic was answered with an increase in activity from the Confederacy of Independent Systems, causing more conflicts all across the galaxy. The further involvement of the Jedi on the front lines of battle led some Jedi to incorporate armor into their robes.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jedi Military Integration Act was mentioned in the 2022 novel Brotherhood, written by Mike Chen.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 Brotherhood is set between the beginning of the Clone Wars and the Battle of Christophsis, as the novel's plot involves Anakin Skywalker becoming a Jedi Knight, a rank he attained between those events. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates both events to 22 BBY, Brotherhood must be set in that year.
