"My specialty is alien biology, and as a Jedi I recognize that the fundamental unifier of all life is the Force."
―Jedi Master Bowspritz, The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force[1]

Jedi Biologist was a title granted to Jedi Researchers of the Jedi Order who specialized in studying the biology of alien species. In 990 BBY, Jedi Master Bowspritz was a Jedi Biologist. That year, he authored two sections describing various species of the galaxy for the Jedi trainee guidebook The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force.

Description[]

"Jedi Researchers employ their exceptional minds to solve theoretical problems and improve the quality of data in our Archives. Specialists among their ranks include mathematicians, hyperspatial physicists, astronomers, and biologists like the esteemed Master Bowspritz."
―Jedi Seer Sabla-Mandibu, The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force[1]

Jedi Biologist was a title that existed in the Jedi Order[1] by 990 BBY.[1][2] It was granted to members of the Jedi Researcher rank within the Order's pool of Jedi Consulars. The bearers of the title specialized in researching the biology of alien species of various levels of sentience and, similarly to other Jedi Researcher positions, improving the quality of the data stored in the Order's Jedi Archives.[1]

History[]

"Xenobiology is a fascinating specialization!"

Jedi Biologist Bowspritz authored two sections for the book The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force.

In 990 BBY, the[1] Tynnan[2] Jedi Master Bowspritz held the title of Jedi Biologist. Bowspritz, who had also been granted the honorific title of[1] Jedi Beastmaster,[1][3] was an expert on the aspect of the Force known as the Living Force,[4] and he[2] found his field of research, xenobiology, to be fascinating.[1]

Bowspritz went on to author two sections for the 990 BBY Jedi trainee guidebook The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force. The first section, placed in the part of the book aimed at Jedi Initiates, served as a brief introduction into the subject matter of xenobiology by highlighting several non-sentient creatures that lived in various habitats across the galaxy.[1]

The second section, addressed to the Order's more advanced Padawan students, was composed of three parts, with the first part providing a concise overview of several sentient species widely encountered in the Galactic Republic. The second part of Bowspritz's Padawan-focused section noted a selection of species that displayed resistance to various Force abilities, and there the Jedi Biologist commented on the shapeshifting Shi'ido and Polydroxol being among the most enigmatic species he had encountered in his research. The final section of The Jedi Path authored by Bowspritz covered a number of Force-wielding animal species. Elsewhere in the book, the Jedi Seer Sabla-Mandibu noted that Jedi Researchers included biologists such as the "esteemed" Bowspritz.[1]

―Daniel Wallace[2]

The title of Jedi Biologist was created by Daniel Wallace for the reference book The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force,[1] which was first published on September 28, 2010. It was first noted on July 18 of the same year in a StarWars.com preview for the book.[4]
