James Burns is the owner of the UK's Star Wars website Jedi News, which he launched in May 2007.

At Celebration V in 2010 The ForceCast's Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank put James together with former Rebel Scum writer Dan Curto for a new ForceCast podcast, the Collector's Edition. From September 2010 and for 18 months James and Curto co-hosted the show. The last of almost 30 shows as part of the ForceCast network was broadcast in early March 2012 and featured news from February 2012's US Toy Fair. On April 1, 2012 Curto and Burns appeared on the April Fools Day 340th episode of Star Wars Action News, with special guest Stephen J. Sansweet. Their podcast, The Curto Burns Collectors Cast, launched summer 2012.

In August 2012, on the last day of Celebration VI, stormtroopers invaded a recording of the Curto Burns Collectors Cast and helped by Steve Sansweet they inducted James as an Honorary Friend of the 501st.

His role as a freelance contributor to the Star Wars Insider began with Star Wars Insider 110 in June 2009. James has interviewed Kenny Baker, Matthew Wood, David Acord, Hugh Quarshie, David Iskra, Dee Bradley Baker and Catherine Taber for the magazine and has contributed to the My Star Wars section since Star Wars Insider 130 alongside Mark Newbold.

Burns also had contributions printed in Star Wars Insider Souvenir Special, and his Kenny Baker interview from issue #111 and Catherine Taber interview from issue #116 were reprinted in Star Wars Insider Special Edition 2012. A photo of Burns was featured in the Mark Newbold–authored piece focusing on the 2006 Artoo Awards in Star Wars Insider 90, dated September 2006.
